Carlton City - good location? Also activities for a 4yo

Hi, I have booked the Carlton City hotel for my 8 day stay. Is this in a good location?

It hasn't opened yet, (due for August opening)so not a lot of info about it...

"situated in the historical district of Tanjong Pagar along the fringes of Chinatown and Raffles Place ".

I will be travelling with my 4-yo son, we are planning on going to USS and I would like to do a little shopping. Maybe the night safari/zoo. Any other ideas of what a 4yo might enjoy?

I was thinking the SEA aquarium, but we have been to the Siam Oceanworld, are they pretty much the same?

Thank you :-)

Carlton City hotel Is right behind the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station; in the Central Business District.

There is a Direct Bus# 80 that U could take to Vivocity Shopping to connect to the Sentosa. Express (Instead of Taking MRT with train change at Outram Station).

===> Take Bus# 80 at the Bus stop on the same side of the Street to vivocity.

The Same Bus# 80 (At Bus stop on opposite Street) to Chinatown (U can even walk there too) & Bugis. Otherwise, for Zoo, Birdpark, Orchard & Bugis, U can MRT Direct with no change

For Little India, U need to take MRT to Outram Station & Change train.

Except on Weekday, Tanjong Pagar is really Quiet, however, there is a Fairprice Supermarket opposite (Below those Apartment) with few food outlet for U to check out. Maxwell Food Centre & Amoy Food Centre are also walking distance from Hotel. Unfortunately, the Food Centre & Wet Market opposite Hotel is closed till Feb 2014 for a complete overhaul.

There is also a Post Office & a Pharmacy call Medic (Next to Post Office) in case U need any Post anything Postcard Or need medication during Ur Stay

SEA Aquarium & Siam OceanWorld or even HK OceanWorld is really a World Apart :D U cannot compare them.

This Video of S.E.A Aquarium in SG might give U some idea to compare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1mvjyfsprw

And if U visit S.E.A Aquarium U might want to check out Adventure Cove Waterpark too:

I think ur son might be interested in the Singapore Science Centre too:

The Garden By the Bay:

Beside the Zoo, U can consider The River Safari:

Am sure others will give U more options :D

Cheers

Wow, what a great & informative reply - thank you :-)

Is the bus stop out the front of the hotel?

I will look into all the options for activities you suggested. We are looking forward to our holiday!

Yeah it's more of a business area. The upside is you are close to Tanjong Pagar MRT and its closer to Sentosa (although not really walkable so you'd need to cab it). You're walking distance to Chinatown but that's about it.

The Bus stop are not right infront of Carlton City, But Infront of Amara Hotel next door.

U can google & zoom in to see the Bus stop icon in blue.

If U do a Google street walk, That part with the Green Netting is where Carlton City Hotel will be & the One with White Board up is Orchid Hotel With a New Road (2 Lane small road) in between Orchid Hotel & Carlton City. Looking towards it, On ur right, is the Amara hotel Next door. Behind U will be the Tanjong Pagar Market (Under Revamp till Feb 2014). The Bridge linking the Market to the apartment Block is where the FairPrice & some of the Food Outlet are. However, IMO the Food Outlet on the second Floor are so much better then those on the Ground Floor :D. Across the road on Ur right side as U face the Market, below & Behind those Square shape Apartment Block are some nice Food Outlet too.

And if U walk up Craig Road & onto Duxton Hill Or Duxton Road, U are into some Cafe & nice Restaurant :D. If U walk straight on Tanjong Pagar Road connecting to Maxwell Road, U will reach Buddha Relic Temple, Maxwell Food Centre & Chinatown within 15min.

Actually Carlton Hotel is sort of in between 2 Bus stop (Left & Right along Tanjong Pagar Road)

If U take Taxi in Singapore, Some Taxi might not know Carlton City Hotel, Just tell them Opposite Tanjong Pagar Market or Next to Amara Hotel. In case they send U to Carlton hotel in City Hall :D

Below are some New Dining Options in 3 Mall which just Open Or had just gone thru partial Revamped (if U Pass by any, can always check them out):

Summary of the Options in the 3 Mall: http://www.soshiok.com/article/25175

Marina Square: http://www.soshiok.com/article/25186

Suntec City: http://www.soshiok.com/article/25187

JEM: http://www.soshiok.com/article/25185

===> JEM is Right beside the Jurong East MRT Station, U will alight here when U go to Singapore Science Centre (Direct MRT Line toward West bound from Tanjong Pagar)

Cheers

The Skybridge and Sky Gardens are well worth visiting, you can only pay by EZlink card which is the prepaid public transport card as well.

Hello,

I started this thread below about a week ago on the new Carlton City Hotel. I really like the area, even though it is sort of on the edge of the business district. I saw they had good opening special prices and am keen to stay. After your trip please write a review of the hotel (I requested it be listed here on Tripadvisor) and the page is ready now for reviews.

Thanks for the informative replies, especially MeOnly, it has helped so much :-D

Avanti50, thank you I will definitely put in a review once I have stayed :)

I'm not too worried that the hotel is in a quiet area, my only concern is being able to find places to eat nearby. It is really good it has a MRT so close by. Most places were around 10 min plus walking distance.

I had previously booked another hotel, but cancelled it as the rooms were only 12-15sqm , and this one is 32sqm so a more decent size when staying with an active 4yo! :)

U got 2 Japanese Restaurant (Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King @ Orchid Hotel + Teppei Japanese Restaurant), Burger Place & others at the Ground Floor of Orchid Hotel Next door :D. Just walk over if U are hungry :D U can do TakeAway & eat at the comfort of Ur Hotel room & Ur food won't get cold with that 1min walk back :D There are More food options as U go down to MRT Station.
