Places to Shop

In September we are staying in Singapore for one night and a day before our flight to Frankfurt.

We have arranged to do a city tour in the morning and were planning on doing some shopping in the afternoon.

Any recommendations of places to shop? We are staying at the Peninsula Excelsior Hotel.

Hello,

Depends on what you want to shop for, eg. cheap souvenirs, high quality brand name goods, shoes, clothing, jewellery?????

There is the Big Raffles City Shopping Centre; which is above City Hall MRT & just a short walk from Hotel (3min). A big Robinson Department store & lots of other shops & Food outlet at the basement. http://www.rafflescity.com.sg/

Cheap Souvenirs? Take any of those bus at the Bus stop opposite Peninsula Shopping Centre (Corner of Coleman & North Bridge Road) that goes straight down North Bridge Road to SOuth bridge Road.......And Alight at 5th Bus stop from boarding Point.......U should be in the Thick of Chinatown for those Souvenirs.

Orchard road which 5 mins away from your hotel has the best shopping in terms of variety. Alight at Orchard mrt station. Explore the high end designers boutiques at Ion, mass market brands such as topshop, zara, mango at the basement complex then walk over to Ngee Ann City for more shopping. This will take more than half a day :) and both these 2 big shopping malls have lots of food outlets too. Happy shopping!

If you are into IT stuff, then the Funan IT mall next door would be a paradise for you. If you venture further, you can hit the Chinatown district where you can shop at the street markets.

Have fun :)

Thankyou for all of the recommendations, just wish I was going for longer because there is so much to do. I really wanted to visit the Zoo, but I had to take the next day flight to Frankfurt or else pay more on flights.

I wanted to do a little bit of clothes and accessories shopping, within a mid-range budget. What else is in China-town?

===> Everything mid range & Not Mid Range are in Chinatown.

Operating Hour in The Shopping Mall are beyond 9.30pm or 1pm, so U can actually do both.

Just go to the Nearest Raffles City Shopping to walk around first, then Hop down to Chinatown to take a Look. If U buy nothing at Raffles City, then u can do it at Chinatown. It just the same, if nothing in Chinatown catches Ur Eye, buy them in Raffles City Shopping. (Am sure that won't happen :D)

There is a OG Department Store in Chinatown (Above Chinatown MRT Station Exit towards People Park)

This Map of Chinatown on what to see, where to shop & wat to eat; might help:

I would recommend Mustafa Centre in Little India.

It's a one stop shopping place for EVERYTHING - clothes, souvenirs, jewelry, food etc. And it's 24 hours, so you can visit any time you want.

Take a taxi there - just ask for Mustafa Centre. Alternatively, it's next to Farrer Park MRT station, if you fancy the subway.

Also, end the day with a dinner on the rooftop restaurant - the food is really good and affordable, excellent ambience. Tip: The naan is really good!

practically all department stores here carry clothes and accessories such as Takashimaya, C K Tangs, Robinsons, etc,.

Orchard Road is the shopping belt here.. only two to three mrt stops from City Hall..

u may want to check out Far East Plaza along Scotts Road near Orchard Road... plenty of mid-range boutique clothes and accessories shops there.

also Bugis shopping mall just on top of Bugis mrt station (only one station from City Hall).. and Bugis Village aka Bugis Market is opposite the mall if u want to pick up a souvenir or some knick-knacks..

Since it's just for one afternoon, the Marina Bay & perhaps Bugis shopping belts shall take up all of your time, unless you want to specifically visit Orchard Road or elsewhere.

City Hall MRT (2 blocks from your hotel) has a mazy underground air-con mall called CityLink Mall that runs southwards to the Marina Bay area (Link Mall, Suntec City Mall, Marina Square, Millenia Walk, Esplanade Mall, etc.). Above ground is the Raffles City Shopping Centre, with the posh Raffles Hotel Arcade behind it (eastwards) & the Bugis Junction Mall, Bugis+ Mall & Bugis Street Market (downmarket) another couple blocks away.
