War Trails in Singapore

Hi

When we return to Singapore in October we would like to visit both Changi Museum and Kranji Cemetery. We are looking at doing the Singapore Walks tour to Changi and would also do the one that goes to Kranji but will not be there when it runs on a Tues as we arrive and depart on a Tues.

I have also been looking to see if a private guide would be worthwhile to do both areas but wonder if we would be best to visit Kranji by ourselves using MRT or taxi. Any suggestions

would be appreciated.

Thanks

June

Jun0, hi

To visit any place/ attraction in SIN you do not need a guide at all, all places are accessible and transport works perfectly.

Hello,

The link below is to the Kranji War Memorial listings page here on Tripadvisor. If you read the reviews from recent visitors you will gather information on the best forms of transport to and from. Seems like some go there by taxi, and afterwards choose to walk towards Kranji MRT Station to get back into the city.

Here is the MRT Network Map. Kranji MRT station is on the red line (top left-hand side of the network map) -

For the Kranji Cemetery just take the MRT to Kranji and then a two minutes bus ride (Buses right outside the station) and ask the driver to stop at the top of the lane that leads to the Memorial. Do the reverse to get back. (round trip from the city about $7 per person)

As for Changi, just take a bus, (about $4 round trip, p.p.) it really is that Simple to do both without a guide, .

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Will take a closer look at the maps and work out what to do. Have been to Singapore

3 times but have never used the MRT. Really need to do it to see what the locals do.

We usually use taxi as we are in a hurry and there are three of us. This time we are

staying for 7 nights so will have a more relaxing time (hopefully!)

Lots of visitors and tourists DO ( and praise) it too, do not be afraid...LOL

I did Kranji last trip, as I had done Changi the previous trip. Definitely catch the MRT, so easy and a great fun ride. You can catch the bus from the MRT, but it is literally a 10min walk from the mrt. If a good day (ie. Not hot!) just walk it. There is no food or drink facilities at Kranji so buy a bottle of water at the Kopitiam at the MRT as on a hot day that sun really saps you.

It's not the normal tourist spot but a lovely place to visit and to contemplate the war and the debt these people paid for us.

As an aside, the Kranji stop is on the red line, we decided to catch it from one place at the start and then head in the opposite direction (since both directions get back to the city) to give us a view of all the scenery. The journey itself was a fun excursion.

Thanks MaverickRoss and Backpacker Lee for your ideas.

I have had the MRT map out and like the idea of doing the "circle" to

see more of the island.
