Honeymoon to Singapore in January-self travel or agency?

Hello All,

Me and my boyfriend are getting married in January,2015. Both of us have planned to schedule our honeymoon between 23rd Jan-30th Jan,2015. We are from Kolkata,India. Our budget is 60-70k (all inclusive) for two.

We have shortlisted some of the destinations:

1. Singapore- We found Airasia is providing tickets from Kolkata to Singapore for 8k only. Is it ok to go there and travel without any agencies? If yes, please provide an itinerary for this and what we have to do as we have never been to abroad before. Or, any affordable travel agency. What will be the weather for January there?

2. Cambodia

3. Goa

Thanks

debarati2014, hey

For SIN you need some 150 USD/ room/ night for accommodation. And about 100 SGD/ person / day for meals, transport, sightseeing and souvenir shopping............Open calculator on your cell!

''Budget'' for hotels ? How much do you want or expect to pay? remembering that Singapore hotel prices, for something at least half decent, are going to be upwards of $150sg- $200sg per night. Or considerably more for the ''better'' hotels. see link.

Do some research, (link provided) and work out a plan, then, if you choose, submit the plan to the forum for any specific advice or questions you may have and we'll be pleased to help.

As for ''walking around monies'', a rough rule of thumb, taking into account, food/drinks, entrance fees to attractions and travel, buses/MRT (subway) about $100sg per day per person should be more than enough

If the 1200USD are for everything, including an hotel, ''pocket money'' etc, then it's going to be very tight, but love finds a way. Happy researching and congrats on your forthcoming nuptials..

Hi debarati2014,

Beiyer Shubhechha (Congrats on your wedding),

For around 50k INR you can book a Singapore tour (3N/4D) from any of the Indian tour agents (goibigo, makemytrip, yatra, etc). But that's for 1 person on a twin sharing basis. Packages usually consist of flight/breakfast/dinner/hotel stay and 1 day tour. Usually with these packages, there is ample time to tour of your own (which will cost extra money).

Airasia provide cheap flight service, but at the end of the checkout, you will have to pay for your own luggage and food. If you do your own trip, you will have to get a Singapore visa before arriving at Singapore, which will cost you around 4k INR each from Kolkata.

But if you can manage to get your budget around 100K INR for both, you can surely do your own travel plans for a week and enjoy your honeymoon with much peace of mind and more personal time as well.

Browse through this site for information and reviews of things to do in Singapore and where to go and what to eat. There are things for everyone to suit all type of budgets. You just need to do your homework for this 1st.

Or you can always choose a travel agent and let them do everything for you (your travel experience MAY differ, as you would have less control over the tour).

Wishing you both a happy married life.

Cheers

Do NOT book for package trip with any travel agency, if you want :

1) To make your holidays about 40%- 50% cheaper.

2) To enjoy as per your own pace / devoting time at each attraction.

3) To enjoy as per your own liking and NOT as per your agents preference.

You can book AirAsia fast as per your dates as the price changes very fast. Its one of the best budget airlines and you will be paying a lot cheaper then other airlines.

Have fun !!

Hi debarati2014

Personally, I would look at multiple-destination holiday deals for the honeymoon (i.e. splurge a bit since it's a special occasion), but I don't know how good India's travel agencies are. Better off inquiring at the Calcutta forum or equivalent.

Flying to 3 countries will combine for almost one day of your planned week, hence a structured tour package is less stressful & thus more suitable.

If it's to be a free-&-easy trip, I suggest allocating at most 3 days for Singapore. In which case, many tourists here opt for 2 days in Sentosa (one day for Universal Studios, with the night & possible late afternoon free; plus another day for the other Sentosa attractions), & a 3rd day for downtown activities.

For the latter, there's going be enough time to visit only 2-3 of the following areas, so pick your choice:

- Marina Bay (spectacular skyline & new attractions) & adjacent 3 Quays (tourist-y in various degrees);

- Orchard Road (shopping hub) & nearby Botanic Gardens (nature retreat);

- Chinatown, Little India, Bugis (all are traditional ethnic quarters which you may alternatively experience in, say, Cambodia instead).

Public transport links (MRT, bus) for these places are excellent, but there's a lot to see & do in occupying your time. If time is tight, cursory sightseeing via commercial HOHO bus tours, river cruises & amphibious Ducktour crafts are also an option.

Our wildlife parks are located much further away (the Zoo/River Safari/Night Safari are up north in Mandai; the Bird Park is out west in Jurong), so taxi rides (20-35 minutes) are recommended if you want to go there.

Congrats on your marriage and yes,Singapore can be done by self very easily with some research. But Cambodia would need a bit of outside help mostly. If you would be visiting Singapore in late Jan,I would suggest you to plan the trip keeping in mind the Chinese New Year,a great time to go there. Late January is pretty good, cool and rains stop by then.As per your question of a cheap travel agency,I would rather recommend a professional travel planning consultant company, with good word of mouth reviews Travel Gees, you can find them on Facebook and they charge just about 700rs for planning your trip for you from scratch and you need to do all the bookings as recommended by them. I think they would charge a bit more for Cambodia, not sure if they do local destinations like Goa.

1200 USD per person or the couple? Both ways,it is do-able. We did our 5day trip with decent hotels and all attractions, food, transport in 35,000 INR per person comfortably, but anything less than that and for a honeymoon is highly impossible for a 5 days trip and will be a tiring experience rather than a relaxing one, remember accommodation will eat the highest share of your budget. Cambodia too can be done 1200 USD depending on the places you visit. If you are busy to do the research as you need to do arrangements for the wedding or rather too lazy,I suggest paying a bit to the travel consultant and getting it planned from them, they are professionals and they'll do the research work for you when you have a shortage of time.
