Transit Lounges & luggage

Hi, I'm a little confused about what happens to luggage within the transit lounges/hotels at Singapore airport. We arrive into Singapore on SIN at midnight & plan to stay in either the Transit Hotel or lounge. Our flight out is with SIN and departs at approx 9.30am. In the past we have checked our luggage through from destination to arrival as we are using the same airline, is this possible with such a long lay over? Or does our luggage go to "lost & found"??

Assuming 'SIN' mean SQ or Singapore airlines, they have a check in desk airside, so you can check in the the day before when you arrive before you go to the transit hotel. You will pick up your new boarding passes and your bags will be transferred for you.

If you are flying with the same airline and have both inward and outbound flight on the same ticket as connecting flights, you should be able to check your bags to the final destination and the airline would transfer the baggage for you, assuming that the 930am flight is the earliest available connecting flight out of Singapore on that particular airline that you booked with.

In fact certain airlines would even provide you with accommodation for such long layover if certain criteria are met. You might want to check with the airline and see what they say.

Turkish Airlines does have that policy for flights in and out of Istanbul, for example.

Hello,

If you fly both legs with SQ, they are able to check your luggage all the way through to the final destination, the duration of your stopover is of no importance even if it`s 26-32 hours or such. During your 9 hours of stopover your suitcases will be stored in the airport hold and reloaded without your intervention on your next flight.

Your options are:

1. through check your luggage to the final destination. This may not be possible due to various reasons. For example some airlines (such as AC) will not through check bags beyond 24 hours of your journey.

2. if above is not possible, when you arrive at Changi, go to the the transfer desk for your connecting airline. They will retrieve your bags and re-tag them for your onward flight. You won't see your bags until after your 2nd flight. You don't have to go through customs or immigration.

If your connecting airline doesn't have a transfer desk, OR your connecting airline does not have an interline agreement with your incoming airline, you have to go through immigration in the morning, claim your bags from lost and found, go through customs and do the check-in for your connecting flight like a local.
