Bariloche or El Calafate/ El Chalten?

Planning a 14 day trip that includes BA (3 days), Iguazu (2 days), and Rio (3 days). Which do you recommend for the remainder of the time, Bariloche or El Calafate/ El Chalten and why? Also, am I missing out by not going to the Salta area?

More spectacular scenery in El Chaltern/El Calafate it was a serious WOW. I didn't really like Bariloche, particularly the fact that the boat trips were limited to giant ferry trips where the highlight was feeding the gulls. The town was cute if you like the swiss chalet thing.

The general feedback from US/UK tourists was that there were better "lake districts" in their own country.

I missed Salta as a result so I can't comment

We enjoyed the Bariloche area, but found that the week in the NOA was much more interesting and spectacular in both scenery and culture.

You might want to check some Trip Reports on both areas, as well as El Chaltern/ElCalafate. What a wonderful dilemma you have a plethora of good choices !

As marnie says I also think that the NOA is more diverse and in some ways more spectacular than Bariloche. I liked the outskirts of Bariloche and I loved San Martin. Haven't been to El Chalten, but El Calafate is a sleepy town and the main reason for going I guess is to see the glaciers which were worth c'ing. U have 6 days and that might be too much time for the el Calafate/el Chalten area.

I think I'd choose the NOA. That said, u can't go wrong with any of the choices -- each is different and has their own fans.
