2 weeks in July - any starting point would help!

We have 2 weeks in July to fill up in Argentina, Chile, Whatever...

We just need to fly home from Lima, so we'd prefer to start in BA or Santiago, and end in the other because the flights back to Lima are non-stop from those destinations.

We are very active, LOVE culture/small towns, speak decent conversational spanish, enjoy low-key nightlife and music...

I know it's winter (that's OK, we loved being in Peru last July and found the weather to be fantastic...warmer during the day, cold at night) and would even ski for a couple of days ...

Any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

I would recommend the Salta & Jujuy area. Beautiful landscapes, indigenous culture, good food, small towns etc. Best way to discover is with a private guide or by renting a car.

For skiing Mendoza is a good place (or Bariloche, but that is much more South). There are direct flights between Salta and Mendoza/Bariloche on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday with Aerolineas Argentinas.

Please be aware that July is winter holidays for the Argentinean as well and all mentioned regions can be really crowded in winter time. So book hotels well in advance etc.

Enjoy!

We are hoping to spend a little time in Buenos Aires - Anyone have any recommendations on a good amount of time in a few places, with not so much travel? We are kind of intrigued by the overnight buses and want to try one...

We have between July 13 and 26. We arrive in Lima early in the morning on the 13 and have a midnight flight out of Lima on the 26. We've been to Peru and are familiar with it....We're looking to fly out as soon as we can on the 13 and fly back sometime in the afternoon so we can have dinner at our favorite restaurant in Barranco before heading back to the US.

If anyone has an idea of timing for a 14 day/night trip and timing.... that could help me get started...

Possibly:

13-17 Buenos Aires

Night bus to Mendoza

18-23 Mendoza/ski/surrounding?

23-26 Santiago/surrounding? Any good day trips? We are concerned it is too "urban"

For cities...we LOVED cusco, didn't care at all for Lima, Quito was somewhere in the middle

If there is a place to stay with a decent amount of culture and activity that could be a home base, we're open to that instead of santiago.
