Long term stay somewhere in Patagonia - where?

My family (2 adults, 2 boys aged 5 and 8) are considering a long term stay (4-8 weeks) somewhere in Patagonia. Do anyone have some good ideas or pointers as to where we could stay for this long? An apartment or small house would be ideal. We might go mad living in a hotel for that long. :) We like the End of the World feeling, but with 2 boys it can't be a place completely void of life. I hesitate to list any other requirements as I suspect there aren't many options. Any ideas on areas or types of housing are welcome, it does not have to be links to specific accomodation.

Also, when would be a good time to go when we have this long time? Summer seems the obvious choice of course.

The area of Bariloche/Villa Angostura/San Martin de los Andes is an excellent place for an extended stay. There are many holiday homes and apartments for rent and each town has very good services.

The lakes region offers so many opportunities for outdoor activities with water activities, fishing, rafting, horsebackriding, mountain biking, trekking, etc. The National parks are well developed with amazing vistas.

Have a look at www.interpatagonia.cin for more details on these locations. Have a look at www.vrbo.com,www.homeaway.com, www.airbnb.com for holiday rentals.
