1st Timers Jan Feb trip !!!!!

Hi All,

We usually go to the Far East for our holidays but I'm now thinking of a change ??

So first of all what area is best for Glorious beaches ( islands or mainland ) with good 4/5 star resorts or beach bungalows ?? We are a couple with a 6 yr old.

Thanks for getting me started ?

Ps what is the weather like in Jan / Feb ????

As you probably already know, there are some great beaches in Rio de Janeiro. If you’re thinking about beaches not far from Rio, you might want to consider Ilha Grande and Búzios. (But don’t count on five-star resorts or beach bungalows.)

Ilha Grande (Big Island) is 95 miles southwest of Rio de Janeiro. The island is a largely undeveloped protected area and noted for its beautiful beaches and hillsides covered in lush tropical forests. There are no cars and no banks on Ilha Grande, so bring cash with you since not all hotels, shops, and restaurants accept credit cards. The largest village on the island is Vila do Abraão, where most of the visitor facilities are located, and can be reached from the mainland by local ferries and catamarans.

Búzios is 105 miles northeast of Rio de Janeiro with over 20 beaches in the vicinity.

One thing to consider with a small child is that Brazil's coast has a lot of waves, so it would be best to check if the piece of coastline you are considering has a calm cove or less surf, or if the hotel has a pool. Resorts of the Cancun type are not common, and what you may be used to as European 4-5 star not widely available, bungalos of the Asian type not at all. However, there are good hotels and pousadas. For Jan/Feb, weather should be good anywhere up and down the coast, but it is a busy time, often including Carnaval when prices soar. The most beautiful, off the beaten path beaches may be that because they are more time/work to access, which may not be ideal with a child, but try the south of Bahia (Porto Seguro area) or perhaps Porto de Galinhas, south of Recife.

First, you will soon find out that Brazil prices are higher than Asian resorts for similar services. And you will be coming in peak season here.

If budget not much of a concern, some suggestions in different areas:

Near Florianópolis (southern Brazil):

In the Trancoso region (northeastern Brazil):

Up and down the Northeastern coast of Brazil you will find resorts established in recent years by Spanish and Portuguese groups, with different comfort levels. Some of them will definitely be child-friendly.
