We are planning to travel from Santiago to Valpraiso on Dec. 22 - we are 4 adults. We believet that a private car and tour guide would be the best plan -taking us from Santaigo in the morning and leaving us at the docks at the end of the day. Does anyone have any suggestions for private tour guide - and any comments on this plan. Thanks in advance.

Valpraiso is a nice place, but not entirely sure you would want to spend a lot of time there. We just visited last week and I can honestly say I was very disappointed. You can do a combination tour with this and Vina del Mar (which is must newer and nicer than Valpraiso). I'm not sure about a private tour guide, but we used grayline tours. We also saw a lot of busses for first premium travel which is probably a lot better than Grayline. http://www.firstpremium.cl/

Good luck and hope it all works out!

The best combination is to combine the visit to Valparaiso with visiting wineries in the Casblanca Valley, on the Santiago-Valparaiso highway.

Mmmhh i do not agre with LILABBY1 about Valparaiso.

In my opinion it is a really beautiful and poetic city, with adramatic background composed by its coloured hanging houses.

Is true, it could be dirty in some areas, and very poor in others, but remember that it is a port.

Normally europeans and most of the americans do love Valparaiso and they prefer it than Viña.

Viña is fancy, and very crowded during summer...
