Bus from Santiago Airport to Santa cruz

I want to get to Santa Cruz from Santiago Airport and don't fancy hiring a car and driving after a 12 hour flight.

Can anyone advise re. public transport. I understand that buses are very good. Where do they depart from at the airport, how frequently, how much and how long does the journey take?

They do not depart from the airport.

You need to take a regular bus (Tur Bus) to Tur Bus bus station and then another one to San Fernando or Santa Cruz.

Is true, regular buses do have a good service, but they do have several stops until arriving to San Fernando.

There are no long distant buses from the airport. You will have to go either to the Turbus or the Central bus station of the Alameda close to the Estación Central and take a bus to San Fernando. From San Fernando, there are lots of buses to Santa Cruz. Take a taxi to the bus station and buy a ticket for the taxi at the kiosks just beyond Customs before you enter the Terminal itself.
