Travelling with a dog.

I am moving to Uruguay from Canada and am looking at changing from an Air Canada from Toronto to a LAN flight in Santiago.

My poor dog will need food and a walk in Santiago. How hard is it to collect the dog and then put her back on the LAN flight? Will I have to go through customs etc or is she considered in transit and we can stay on the transit side. I don't want to leave the airport , just give her a short break.

Any help much appreciated,

Poor doggie. You should really split the trip so you both have a day in Santiago to unwind a bit (of course, that would require you comply with Chile regs for entry).

Have you asked Air Canada and LAN if they even allow such a continuing transit for a checked dog?

If you have to enter Chile, don't forget the entry fee if traveling on a Canadian passport.

Requirements for dogs can be found on the Chile SAG site:

and real life experiences can be found on the allchile.net expat forum.
