where to stay and what to see before the cruise

I am traveling to Santiago a few days before the cruise. What is the recommendation of what to see in Santiago, where to stay and is it worth spending a day or two in Valparaiso as well?

Where to stay depends on what price you are willing to pay. Probably best to stay in the Providencia area which has hotels in all price brackets. As to what to do depends on your tastes there are Lots of museums and art galleries ranging from the traditional to contemporary including, the Precolombino, the Museo de la Moda, the Museo de la Memoria, there is the National Art Gallery, Bellas Artes and a hst of private galleries around town. Go for a walk in the centre visit the Mercado Central, go up the funicular on the Cerro (hill) San Cristobal or walk up the Cerro Santa Lucia, stroll around the Lastarria nieghbourd, visit Bellavista or go to the Feria de Artesenia at Los Dominicos. Many of these places can be reached on the subway (Metro) which is excellent although crowded during rush hours. Close by are wineries and the Cajon del Maipo.

It is certainly worth visiting Valparaiso, a unique city.

I would take the time to check Tripadvisor's Things To Do section first:
