visiting in March before cruise

We are planning to stay at the Marriott. Is it in a good area? Will we be able to walk around the neighborhood ?

We are considering Latintrip.com, Travel Fic (at the Mariott) , or Michael Ayanokum as pick up at the airport, guided tour in santiago, and tour and travel to Valparaiso and the ship. Does anyone have experience with them ?

The Marriott is in a good, but not pedestrian friendly area. You will be able to walk to a hypermarket and a homecentre.

In the mall right near the Marriott there is an outdoor area of restaurants called the Boulevard. It is a nice place to wander in the evening for a drink, an ice cream or dinner. There are some nice restaurants there. There are also tours which go from the mall parking lot with Turistik.

The Marriott is a very nice hotel with excellent restaurants of its own. Have you contacted them about transport to the cruise port? Coming from the airport is very easy on your own. You book an official taxi at the desks inside customs after you put your luggage through the scanners. The prices are fixed according to where you are going. It should be about US$35-40 to the Marriott.

Hi Baboom!

Your best bet is Michael Ayanocum for your airport pick up, Santiago´s city tour and transfer to Valparaiso with tours.

The Marriott hotel is in a good area of Santiago (probably one of the best in the city). But there's not much to see in the neighborhood (there's a park just 5 minute walk and a big mall - Parque Arauco - 3 minute walk). Maybe an hotel in the Providencia area would be a better choice if you want to walk around the neighborhood and not just spend your time at the shopping mall.

I read you question and the answers. Now we are making the same decisions. We are two couples arriving 2 days before. Any recommendations?

Hi Sonia,

That depends on the purpose of your trip. Sure, the Marriott is a "nice" hotel but it's pretty much like staying at a hotel in Miami, New York or London. If I were you I would choose to stay at a hotel with an unique character.

Try Lastarria, Le Reve or Aubrey. All of them very nice boutique hotels.

Hope this helps!

Best, Pedro

We did stay at the Marriott, and enjoyed it. The advantage of staying at this type of property is you usually know what to expect. We suggest staying on the concierge level, as you will enjoy the access to the lounge with its complimentary food and drinks.

Ask for some dining suggestions in the area. They really have some outstanding restaurants.

Santiago was great! Make sure you spend the time to see it.

Enjoy it!
