How many nights should we split between Santiago and Mendoza

We are 4 adults who are flying from Toronto, Canada to Santiago, Chile in October. We land at Santiago airport at midnight and plan on staying at a hotel near the central bus station, so that we can head out to Mendoza first thing in the morning. As we arrive very late the first night, we really only have 7 nights to split between Santiago and Mendoza.

Seeing as the bus takes 6-8 hours, how many nights should we spend in each city? Is Mendoza really quiet and uninteresting after you have taken in enough wine tastings?

Our options are (not counting first night after flight):

2 nights Mendoza, 5 nights Santiago OR

3 nights Mendoza, 4 nights Santiago. Please advise! First time to both destinations!

First day in Mendoza, you will be getting there in the late afternoon. Same with your return to Santiago.

I would do 3 nights Mendoza and 4 nights Santiago. First afternoon in Mendoza, take it easy, walk around town, have a great dinner. Next two days, city tour, wine touring and maybe the High Andes tour.

The Santiago focused experts will reply next. Maybe split the time with a night in Valpo/Viña.

Dates that may effect bus travel over long weekends: Oct. 8 (Argentina), Oct. 15 (Chile). Oc.t 28 is muni elections in Chile.

Three and four would be a good split. Mendoza is a pleasant place and the food is good. However, there is not so much to do after you have walked around. For a classic meal try the Trevi. Not the most modern, but excellent food both the steaks and the pasta dishes.

I agree, split it 3/4. Both are great places.
