Traveling in July 2013

I will be leading a Habitat for Humanity team July 20-28th in Santiago to asiist with the 'Return Our Children Home', helping children with life-threatening illnesses. I have plans to arrive in Chile about 5 days before the building begins, and then again stay for a few days. I'm looking for a few suggestions to fill these days...

I have researched Santiago, skiing, Valpo, & Mendoza, so far...

With this in mind, what will the weather be like in mid-July? I'm an avid skier, but will not be able to bring any equipment with me, are there places to rent skis, boots, poles, & a helmet? Would you recommend staying in Santiago and doing a day trip to ski or staying at the ski resort for a few?

Will It be possible to travel to Mendoza? Will the vineyards be open in July for tourists?

Thanks for all the help & insights!

Yes, you will be able to ski and rent equipment. Personally, I would stay in a resort, but book soon. Going to Mendoza could be tricky unless you fly. The pass can be closed at anytime in July. There are many vineyards very close to Santiago.
