Is there a train service from Santiago to Osorno or any coastal town nearby?

The train just gets as far south as Temuco, but bus service is excellent to Osorno and elsewhere in the south. Valdivia is close to the coast, and Puerto Montt is on the coast. The "coast" in this part of Chile is not easily accessed.

The train gets as far as Chillan not Temuco. There were sporadic attempts to bring back the train to further south a few years ago but it was not resumed on a regular basis. There are a couple of interesting little branch lines served by much smaller trains - really a carriage or two and more like a bus on wheels. If you have time, they are fun to explore. One of them is the bus-carril from Talca to Constitución on the coast.
