New Quito Airport taxis

There have been a lot of questions re taxis from the new airport and i certainly found it confusing so I thought it may be helpful to some to report on our recent experience. We arrived on Sunday night at 23.30 ffrom Madrid. Passing through immigration was quick and easy and entering the arrivals hall and passing through the massed ranks of taxi drivers waiting for there passenger we found the taxi desk just to left where we came out. No queues at the desk and within 3 mins we had told them our destination and were on our way to the rank just outside with a pink slip with our destination written on to hand to the driver ( you pay the driver on arrival)

All the prices for the various destinations are clearly set out for the various destinations in Quito. Ranging from $25 to our destination of Mariscal up to $30 for other parts.

The process was quick, easy and pretty straightforward. The journey into Mariscal took around 45 mins ( but that was with NO traffic whatsoever) .

Unless you speak Spanish it would help to have your full destination details including cross streets written down.

Ask the cost of where you are gong to before getting in the taxi, ours from airort to B&B in Quito was $60.00,after that we asked prior to getting in the tax,so many readily available so ask before as prices vary widely

This may be an obvious question but when you say that certain fares cost different US dollar amounts did you actually give US currency to the taxi drivers or ecuadorian currency?

The U.S. dollar Is the currency used in Ecuador. The only Ecuadorian money are a few coins with equivalent values in U.S. cents.

We did not accept out hotel kind offer of a transfer to the old town of $47! Instead we headed out of the arrivals hall to where there were a line of yellow city cabs waiting. A driver approached us and we showed him in writing where we wanted to go. He had a number on his taxi which is important according to Quitos Tourist Information. A figure of $27 was accepted. Why in writing because then, when he does not know exactly where the place is he finds it on his time not your pocket. You pay him on arrival!

The new road in is quite exceptional as us the view when you arrive at the bottom of the mountain to go up. Our trip took 50 minutes and there was light traffic. We travelled mid February 2015
