Daily Island Walk & Snorkeling Routine

We are planning our packing for our upcoming Galapagos cruise in 2 weeks. On those mornings or afternoons that schedule an island walk and snorkeling, should we wear our swimsuit on the walk? or should we plan to wear shorts on the walk and then change into your swimsuit? Do you usually change somewhere on the island or go back to the Catamaran to change? I'm not sure that my wife would be comfortable wearing her swimsuit on the walks. How far from shore typically are the Catamarans?

Arky, there's no place on any island to change into a bathing suit after a hike (unless one doesn't mind an audience<g>). And it's doubtful you can get back to the ship to change, then back to the beach for a swim/snorkel, as at Rábida or Bartolomé. On the other hand, snorkelling may be from the panga, after a quickie return from the hike to the ship. Best plan is to check with the guide in advance of each landing. In the case of a hike followed by swimming from the beach, maybe your wife could wear something over her bathing suit for the former, then ditch it for the latter.

Most times when you have a hike and a snorkel you will return to the ship for refreshments in-between.

Sometimes when the hike is short (Like Bartolome when you just climb the steps to the viewpoint) you will go directly to snorkel afterwards. In this case you will need to be in swimwear as there is nowhere to change.

You will need to listen to the guide at the evening briefing to determine what you need to wear as it is not normally possible to return to the ship unless its scheduled - everyone has to stay together.
