Not a very good idea to take a cheaper bus and risk an accident or a breakdown like it happened to you.

Better idea is to fly !

There are usually very good flight deals from Lima to Cuso, making taking a bus a rather poor choice. In reference to taking a cheaper bus, yes, there are other high class services apart from cruz del sur, but i do not reccomend taking a bus from say Lima to Cusco. You're best to fly.

A bus would only be reccomended if you are wishing to make stops along the way to visit the many coastal or inland attractions.

There are many other companies than Cruz del Sur, including other high end companies. It is not at all obvious which companyh is safer or less safe.

Nothing is safe, not even flying to Peru is safe. You take your chances in travelling, make no bones about it, cruz del sur 'nanny state' or not.

Apologies, i meant that in truth no such thing as "safe" truly exists in life. Life is an adventure, a risk. We must simply choose the "safer" of those risks. Life simply cannot ever be "guaranteed safe", that is the plain and simple truth wether we wanna accept it or not.

For ease of explanation, on this board "Cruz del sur" is almost worshipped as if nothing can go wrong, but we have an incident of one being robbed.

By all means have a safe trip, but don't be under any illusions.
