2 weeks Peru / Bolivia

Here is my itinerary -

Day 1 – arrive Lima (ETA 22:05)

Day 2 – Lima

Day 3 – Lima – (by flight) – Cusco

Day 4 – Cusco

Day 5 – Cuzco – (colectivo 1.5 hr) – Ollantaytambo – Aquas Calientes

Day 6 – Machu Picchu – (by train @ 1643/2023) – Cuzco

Day 7 – Cuzco – (Tourist bus @ 0730/1700) – Puno

Day 8 – Puno (Islas Uros)

Day 9 – Puno – Copacabana (Isla del Sol)

Day 10 – Copacabana – La Paz – (night bus @ 2100, 10hr) – Uyuni – Salar de Uyuni tour

Day 11 – Salar de Uyuni tour

Day 12 – Salar de Uyuni tour – Uyuni – (night bus @ 2030) – Laz Paz

Day 13 – La Paz

Day 14 – La Paz (most dangerous bike tour)

Day 15 – (spare)

Day 16 – (spare)

Day 17 – La Paz – by flight – Lima – depart Lima (ETD 23:35)

Is it workable? I have 2 spare days, shall I spend one more day in Cusco after MP, or in Lake Titicaca, or in La Paz? Any recommendations for bus operators?

What a second, you aren't taking a Sacred Valley tour in Cuzco? That is really strange, considering it is one of the highlights of Peru. Both Pisaq and Ollantaytambo are beautiful.

Yeh. Tight but doable. Use the extra day in Cuzco. Lots to be seen in the city.

Do I need to join a tour for Sacred Valley? Or can I do it on my own? Just one person.

Another person missing Paracas and Huacachina, both so close to Lima, both great places and I think the Oasis in Huacachina is one of the most unique places I have ever been to...simply search google images if you don´t believe me!

Definitely more time in the Sacred Valley, which you are completely skipping, and in Cusco. You can take a group tour if the SV or just hire a car and driver with or without a guide for a day. Or you can stay in Ollanta or Urubamba fir a couple nights do its not so rushed.

Looks like a lot of good planning to me. Keep those spare days where they are you may need the flexibility in Bolivia.

Regarding to altitude problem, would it make a great difference if I travel from Lima to Cusco and MP first, then La Paz and Salar de Uyuni back to Lima, or do it in reverse? I was given both options from LAN and it's hard to decide.

At last, I have all my flights confirmed and thus, can go into more details about my trip. If I spend one more day in Cusco making -

Day 3 – Lima – (flight 1210/1330) – Cusco (city walk)

Day 4 – Cusco (Saqsayhuman, Tambomachay & Pisac)

Day 5 – Cusco (Chinchero, Moray & Urubamba)

Day 6 – Cusco – (colectivo 1.5 hr) Ollantaytambo – Aquas Calientes

Day 7 – Machu Picchu – (by train @ 1643/2023) – Cusco

Day 8 – Cusco – (Tourist bus @ 0730/1700) – Puno

Questions -

1) If I don't take SV tour, how much for a taxi (without guide) for day 4 & 5. Can I do it with public buses?

2) am I correct that the colectivo which I take from Cusco to Ollantaytambo does not have long time stop at tourist spots and 1.5hr is quite realistic.

3) the tourist bus from Cusco to Puno varies greatly from Trans Zela (USD 19) to Inca Express (USD 55). Is there a great service difference.

4) Huacachina is 4 hours away from Lima, so I will give it a miss. However, I would like a day trip from Lima, any recommendation? I'll have a whole day (0725 - 2335) for city walk in Lima on the last day.

5) excuse me for the next very stupid question. Based on the above itinerary, would a backpack or wheeled luggage make a huge difference when travelling along?

Getting excited, another 10 days to go.
