Two weeks in Peru - what should we do?!

Hi all,

My husband and I are traveling to Peru in late Feb 2014. We will have 13 days there. We know we'll be going to Machu Picchu and spending a few nights in Ollyantaytambo for day hikes, biking, etc. We are trying to decide what else to do. Go to the Amazon for a few nights? Colca Canyon? Cuzco?

Just looking for ideas. We love hiking and would also like some cultural experiences. Thanks!

Spending a few days in Cuzco goes without saying. Going to the jungle is also up there. Manu is consider the top end trip. If not in budget then Puerto Maldonado. If time a bus over to Puno on Lake Titicaca.

February is the rainy season in the Andes. Instead of staying in the wet Andes post-Machu Picchu, you may want to split your extra days between the Amazon (which will also be rainy, but a lot warmer) and the coastal areas around Lima, which will be quite warm and not so rainy. Lima is worth a day or two for its world renowned cuisine and excellent museums and galleries. You might also venture further down the coast to Paracas (4 hours by bus from Lima), known for its marine wildlife and laidback resorts. Between the Andes, Amazon, and coast, you'll get a varied sampling of all the diversity in cultures and landscapes that Peru has to offer.

Happy travels!
