Machu Pichu in January

Greetings- Planning on visiting Machu Pichu in January. Is that a good month? I read alot on this site about mosquito bites in the ruins. Is this all year round?

Thank you in advance for any info.

Sand flies are the problem. January 2010 was the year that the river flooded at Aguas Calientes, stranding tourists, but it was during El Niño. And now it is heading toward La Niña. If it stays that way it might not be bad at all.

I do remember reading about the stranded tourist in Machu Pichu. They say that La Nina usually causes the opposite effects of El Nino. Thank you.
