safety in Cusco

Hi. Is it safe to walk around Cusco? I've read reports that there is a problem with pick pockets and people trying to steal from tourists. What experience has anyone had?

Safer than Lima. Read on the forum; there is plenty of threads about issues in both cities.

You have to take care of your belongigngs. For instance, in a restaurant, don't just put your daypack on a chair.

Also I guess some neighbourhoods are less safe (but tourists don't go there normally).
