10 days in Peru

Hi all,

My boyfriend and I are planning 10 days in Peru for late Dec/early Jan. We're hoping to spend a few days outside Lima to enjoy the sun before flying to Cuzco. May stay a couple nights in Urubamba to train to MP (don't plan on trekking) and also stay a couple nights in Cuzco. A couple questions for the experienced Peruvian traveler:

1. Does anyone know of a great destination close to Lima (preferably somewhere we wouldn't have to fly due to time constraints) where we can enjoy proper summer weather? Beach isn't a necessity but would be nice. Really just looking for an awesome spot to chill out/explore.

2. Any suggestions/recommendations for our time around Cuzco? Don't want to over extend ourselves with too many cities but open to day trips. Haven't booked anything yet so any and all advice is much appreciated!

Thanks all!

Beaches around Lima are pretty ugly in my view. Plus the water is very cold, even in summer. If you want to be on the coast, stay in Barranco, which is charming and connected to Central Lima by the fast new bus.

You could easily spend a week in the Sacred Valley close to cCusco. Lots of archaeological sites, indigenous markets and great scenery. It rains a lot in summer!

I second the recommendation of the sacred valley as a great place to relax and chill out. Check out the Green House. Ollanta is also a great place to stay to see the ruins and take nice walks.

Hello. Just returned from Cusco/Sacred Valley. We loved Ollantaytambo - a beautiful, serene mountain town that has awesome views and great ruins which are walking distance (15 min.) from the town square. We felt perfectly safe there walking around at 10pm, it is a great town with lots of charm. Besides the ruins there, you can do a nice loop hike from across the river (took us 3 hours with breaks), or a day trip to see Chinchero-Maras-Moray. We also stayed in Urubamba and it is not like Ollantaytambo - it is more of a transportation hub, not as many tourists. Have a great trip!

For a place close to Lima, you can look into Huacachina, Paracas or Ica, 4 hours by bus.aprox

Beaches in Lima . Waikiki comes to mind, but you will need special shoes, as it does not have sand but stones. Overall beaches near Lima are not that great.

Keep in mind this will be one of the high season months and also the rainy season in Cusco

I suggest to visit Cuzco visiting first Valle sagrado de los incas because is not high as Cuzco city doing this you wont fell dizzy, then you could visit Pisac,Ollantaytambo,Chinchero

to visit machupicchu you have to book in advance, is better. if you want to take good pictures you must go to Waynapichu it is close to machupicchu montain, In order to climb Huayna Picchu you have to buy a new combined Machu Picchu - Huayna Picchu entrance ticket, no only Machu Picchu ticket

then you can take tours like mountain bike, zip line, horse en sacsaywaman, paragliding in the sacred valley, and more..

dont forget to visit other regions like Nazca lines and tehe desert of Ica, Paracas, Ballestas Islands
