Machu Picchu with Kids

Hi we are traveling to MP and the Scared Valley on Friday. Our children are 8 and 10. We are looking for a guide that can limit the hiking part of the trips. Any suggestions besides the train to MP.

Thanks

No problem with hiking on general tours of the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. There are some optional hikes at Pisac & Ollantaytambo & elsewhere in the Sacred Valley, only if you think they are up to it, not necessary to hike to see the sights.

We used David Mahuire Ramos & thought he was a great guide.

David's website is new. He lists several tour options, but this is new. We did a couple of day tours in the Sacred Valley with him, driver was separate. I suspect you could arrange to visit whatever sites you want.

Or contact Rodrigo at the Kuychi Rumi, email: info@urubamba.com or Sofie Barreda: sofiabarreda@gmail.com. Either one of them can arrange guides & drivers for you.

I recommend visiting Sacsayhuaman (maybe even fly a kite there), Awana Kancha llama farm, Pisac market (& ruins if you want), Maras salt pans, Moray, and Ollantaytambo (be sure to visit the Old Town area), before going to Machu Picchu.

As long as you don't do Inca Trail, there is no requirement for hiking in SV and MP. Although you certainly do a lot of walking...true for any touring in any country though.

My kids were 8,8 and 11 at the time and no issues. We used David Ramos and Percy Salas (separately) as guides. They were both very good at listening to the kids, cutting out the history stuff when they saw eyes glaze over. Percy stopped the car by the side of the road to show our son an adobe "plant" as he was interested in how it was made. Stopping to show us rocks and vegetation, etc. David was very good at getting us out to meet the people, which my kids loved...willing to go off the beaten track a bit if you are willing.
