Best time of summer to travel to Machu Picchu/Inca Trail

We're planning a family trip next summer and are trying to decide which month (June, July, August) is the best. Is there any difference? Does it get busier/more crowded in August? Any more/less bugs in different summer months?

Thank yoU!

I think it will be about the same in any of those months, as far as crowds and weather are concerned. In late June, there is an annual festival in Cusco -- Inti Raymi. I don't know the exact date for this year. It will be very crowded in Cusco at this time, but many people make sure they are there for this special event!

Remember, this is Peruvian winter -- but it is also dry season. Still, bring rain gear, sunblock and insect repellent (we used "Off" towelettes, very handy & lightweight). Sometimes, people get bug bites at Machu Picchu -- recommended you wear long pants & don't sit on the ground there.
