Honeymooning in Cook Islands

Hi All.

Been reading previous forums in regards to accommodation etc in the CI. I am getting married in Nov 2014 and thinking about CI as our honeymoon destination. Not looking at spending an absolute fortune but still make it an enjoyable holiday. My fiancé has never been overseas!! Just want to go there and relax. Do some snorkelling, fishing and drink cocktails. Any tips on which island to stay? Wont be doing much shopping. Only bare essentials. Thanks in advance :-)

Kia Orana Alcye, welcome to the forum.

Aitutaki is THE island for a wonderful honeymoon. Very relaxed pace with stunning lagoon. Warmer temps and less rainfall compared to Rarotonga.

Tamanu Beach or Samade are nice mid-range choices on Aitutaki. Aim to spend a couple of days on Rarotonga also, before heading home. Magic Reef is very low-key, but lovely. Alternatively look at Sunhaven. Both are located on the western side of Rarotonga. For on-site licenced dining, Manuia Beach and the Sunset Resort are popular on Rarotonga's western side.

You may want to book your accommodation well before winter begins, since November is when the paddling festival on Rarotonga takes place - end of the month event.

A through ticket to Aitutaki as your final destination can be booked flying Air New Zealand - both the direct Sydney to Raro flight, and the schedules which transit in Auckland.

All the best for your honeymoon-planning and decision-making. Kia manuia.

HI Alyce, I agree with the above posting that Aitutaki can't be beat for a honeymoon destination. In addition to the accommodations mentioned above here are a couple of web sites that have most of the accommodations available on Aitutaki:
