Please help out Fiji virgins!

Hi guys

We are going to fiji for our first time as part of our RTW trip and we are very excited. We will be there 20th Aug for 8 nights and need your help on where to stay.

Due to all of our travelling we were thinking of just staying on fiji island and doing day trips to explore other islands. Will we get the true 'fiji feeling' this way or are we really missing out.

Can you recommend from personal experience any accommodation on fiji for about £30 - £50 a night. in a nut shell we would be very happy with a basic but clean bungalow on the beach. none of this fancy hotel or all inclusive malarky!

All advice would be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance

Day trips to islands from Nadi could end up being very expensive. Unless you really want to explore the main island I'd recommend you head for somewhere in the Yasawas and stay put - or even do 2 different resorts. There is a range of places to look at - do you want a party scene or something more quiet and laid-back?

Might be slightly more than the budget not sure what your exchange rate would be compared to Fiji dollars but have a look at Navini island resort. You could share a bure (they only charge per bure per night if you book online through their web site and they quote in Fiji dollars) the bonus is that they include all the offshore excursions to other resorts and a Fijian village and fishing and snorkeling trips in the room rate so you save heaps. There is plenty to do and it has great snorkeling. Small island and resort but a very special place..

Thanks so much for your replies.

We definitely don't want party scene. just somewhere to relax, typically fijian with a lovely beach and swimming.

Any more recommendations greatly appreciated.

many thanks

Hi 'Hooked on fiji'

we looked into Navini island and it does indeed look a really special place.

unfortunately it is about £210 per room/night. we just cant stretch to that but many thanks for the recommendation - it does look perfect.

many thanks

I've booked a room at the all inclusive Papageno resort on the Island of Kadavu. It sounded very reasonable. I'll be there for the 3rd week in July.

Hi Nathsal

The main island of Viti Levu where Nadi international airport is located doesn't have the best beaches, the islands do.

For your budget, I'd also look at Octopus Resort or Botaira in the Yasawas for a much cheaper stay, better beaches snorkelling etc and not too far from Nadi via the Yasawa Flyer.

Or try Malolo Lailai island, Musket Cove resort, about an hour from Nadi via the Malolo Cat. plenty of options on this island and lots to do and see.

happy to help if you need more info.

hope the planning goes well LTB

Hi Nathsal,

Have you booked yet? I've stayed in the Dorms at Octopus and they are quite nice. Sleeps about 14 with shared bathrooms. For a little extra you can stay in the smaller dooms which sleep about 4-5 and has its own bathroom. The Dorms won't be directly on the beach but you won't be far away.

Including meals the price should be pretty close to your budget. Activities abound but not a party island.

Hi everyone

thanks so much for all your helpful replies.

we really liked the look of many of your suggestions, particularly octopus resort, but unfortunately they are already full.

think we are going to go for bounty, it is within distance and within our price range and they have availability. we know someone who has stayed there and they really enjoyed it - seems cheap and cheerful-ish!

thanks again for all your help. we will post a review on our return

happy travels
