where to stayin Fiji ?

We are a family of 4... 2 adults and a 12 year old and 24 year old.We would like recommendations where to stay in fiji for a 10 day holiday. We thought of splitting our stay at 2 reorts for 5 days on the mainland plus 5 days on a smaller island. Looking at 4 or 5 star resorts for late september/early october. We were last in fiji 11 years ago and have previously stayed at the Fijian shangri la and on Treasure Island and Castaway Island.

Have a look at Navini island resort in the Mamanucas or an island in the Yasawas such as Viwa, Octopus and Blue Lagoon beach resort

Navini would be perfect for the island stay. Unfortunately not many of the mainland resorts beaches compare with those on the islands, The Intercontinental is on Natadola Beach which is the best on the mainland otherwise the Shangri la Fijian Resort has a nice beach. Probably best of the rest.

Thanks for reply. Navini sounds very small and perhaps a bit too personal for us . we prefer a slightly bigger place on an island. do you have any recommendations ? Which hotel resort and accommodation is better if choosing between intercontinental and Fijian shangri La where we have stayed a few times previously but not since 2001. Is the beach at natadola a wave beach or as calm as at the fijian and where is the weather better ?

For an 8 night stay appreciate any feedback ..... Thinking of splitting it 2 nights at fiji resort and spar by hilton plus 3 nights on castaway and 3 nights on either tokorini resort or vomo resort. Which is nicer ? Both of them are pricey . For a couple with 12 year old child. Tokorini will accept her but just wondering if we should narrow it down to mainland and 1 island or leave out mainland and do 2 islands ? We love the beach and not only the swimming pool.

I would split it between the mainland and an island. Depending on your flights, you may need to overnight on the mainland anyway. With transfers between resorts, you tend to lose a day in the process so better to minimize those as far as possible.

We have jsut returned from Vomo and it is significantly more upmarket than Castaway in terms of food, service and acommodation. It doesn't have all the island hopping trips that Castaway offers or the motorised watersports activity so it depends if that's important to you or not? Depending when you go e.g. during school holidays your 12 year old is likely to have some playmates on Vomo vs Tororiki.

Thanks for your replies. Finally we have decided to go to castaway for 5 nights as it is not during school holidays and we feel this is the best compromise having our 12 year old with us. I would like to stay in a beach bure. Are any of these bures recently refurbished and which is the nicest side to stay.? In 2001 I remember it being windy and prefer not to stay on the windy side.
