Fiji accommodation - where to stay

Myself and 3 other people are thinking of spending a week in Fiji and renting out a private house.

None of us have been before, so can anyone recommend where to stay that is close to food, markets, nice beaches etc? Also, any recommendations of businesses to book houses through?

Thanks in advance

Have you checked here on Trip Advisor under vacation rentals? There's a tb up above that will take you there.

Here's a link to another pretty comprehensive site:

www.holidayhomes.co.nz/search/2033082…

There are lots of others just type in something along the lines of 'Fiji rentals' into google. Be sure to have a good look at a map of Fiji before booking anything, you might find the rental you fall in love with could involve more air travel than you budgeted for (ie: on Taveuni or Vanu Levu which are the other large islands of Fiji).

There are also vacation rental properties available on the island of Malolo Lailai which is around an hours ferry ride from port Denarau (so not fr from Nadi airport).

Here's one more for you. I like this one for it's view and location (in-between Nadi and Lautoka so plenty of places to shop for groceries or visit the markets) and easy to go on day trips out to the islands for nice beaches and snorkling etc).

No problem, love the fact that we're both besotted with our dogs to the point we have their pics as our profile pics. ;-)

I hope you find a great place to rent and place feed back on it. We'll probably do that next year as part of a stay. This year (as our first trip back to Fiji in forever) we're staying in more (small) resort type places.

We stayed at a little cottage on the side of the hill at Maui Bay on the Coral Coast. At the time it was called "Noqu Tadra" but it is now named "Sunrise/Sunset." it was nice, quaint, not luxurious by any means, but had good facilities to cook, wash etc. They were in the process of installing a plunge pool, which should have been done by now. The best part about it was it comes with a Toyota Corolla. Airport transfers included, and the manager Aziz, lives only 5mins down the hill on a nearby farm.

It is situated between the Ridges Hideaway and Naviti resorts. Nearby is Villisites restaurant where we ate most "dine out" meals. We did try all the resorts, but their food was way too expensive. We drove from Suva to Nadi to Lautoka, everywhere it was great. We stayed there two weeks with our four kids and they had a ball. Maui Bay is a residential estate and as such, you have full use of the beachfront swimming pool and BBQ shack as well as kayaks to snorkel the reef, which is the most colorful I have seen straight off the beach anywhere along the Coral Coast.

If you look up the holiday homes link posted, it is number 6149. Eeva is pretty quick with her replies, and payment is by bank deposit. If you search "Noqu Tadra" in the TA search you should find a number of listings also.

I recommend it primarily on the use of the vehicle, which starts about $100/day for anything half decent.
