Fiji cyclone

Just a heads up everyone. Check the weather. Just heard a news report about a cyclone strengthening and at this stage on track for both main islands. Hopefully it will not eventuate. I am on the run so can't check for more details.

Uh oh ... not again. Poor Fiji :(

Anyone travelling there take care and stay safe.

Ensure you are familar with your resorts evac plans and location, and at least until it passes late Sunday night, keep everything relatively packed incase you have to get out ASAP.

Ensure your passports are in a safe location incase you can only grab them.

From that link E&C posted, it does not look good on size alone.

See here for wind speed info:

Hopefully it dies down rather than heads towards a Cat 4.

That shows the projected path... straight over the 2 main islands. :|

Hooked on, in the news the Samoan cyclone was category 3 but its now intensifying to category 4 too hit Fiji. The photos of damage in Samoa are terrible and there were 3 deaths.

Does anyone know if there has been an official warning for travellers not to visit Fiji yet, as we leave early Sunday morning and would like to cancel tomorrow if we can. If any one hears or reads of one could you please post it on this page! Thankyou

The latest track map for Cyclone Evan has it on course for the Yasawas and Manamuca's and possibly intensifying to a Cat 5, which will have hurricane force winds of up to 115 knots (212 KM per hour) on 17 December.

Further updates go to the Fiji Met site

Be safe and be prepared as this looks like a very dangerous cyclone.

Ann M keep in touch with your airline also, as they may cancel flights if the cyclone continues on the predicted track and continues to intensify. Air NZ cancelled flights into Samoa.

Very very sad news for the people of Samoa, they are still being battered by it as it does a u-turn and commences on track to Tonga and Fiji
