Best place for a variety of people.

Hi There,

I'm planning my fiji wedding for next year and were told to stay away from Denarau & the Coral Coast, many reasons, but it seems there are some really nice resorts there, I'm second guessing that information! Is there any reason that these places should be avoided? Outrigger on the Lagoon is one of my picks (although it looks quite big and could be to busy??) along with Castaway Island Resort, Lomani Island Resort, Plantation Island, Musket Cove Island Resort and Tokoriki.

I need a place that we can have fun and the feel of Fiji, but with a private space for a wedding, don't want 100 of screaming children spoiling my special day, but where kids are allowed since one of my friends have 2 under 3 years old.

I would like a place the girls can get pampered and have a massage before the big day and the boys can have a laugh and a drink.

Out of the places named, could anyone say which they could suggest? Or even suggest another place better suited?

I feel a little lost with all the options as so many look the same but the reviews are so different.

Any suggestions?

Gloria their in house wedding specialist is fantastic.

Sounds like people have been giving you recommendations for a honeymoon instead of a place to actually host a wedding. One thing to consider is the budget of both yourselves AND your guests. Are you guests likely to want to pay $500/nt + to attend your wedding? If not, Outrigger is certainly a good choice. I WOULD avoid Plantation but Musket Cove is a great alternative and guests could choose to stay at Plantation if they were on a lower budget. Others to consider: ShangriLa, Mana Island, Treasure Island (which will be all newly re-furbished by next year), Hideaway Resort and First Landing. You can then sail off into the sunset for your honeymoon at any of the other gorgeous places you have mentioned. Lomani is actually on the same island as Musket Cove & Plantation........

Firsty congratulations on the upcoming wedding and honeymoon.

Tough call on that one (a place that allows kids but doesn't have heaps of screaming ones). Outrigger is pretty popular with really young families as they have an onsite nanny service for young bubs.

Lomani and Matamanoa are worth a look, but do not allow kids.

One place to check out is Warwick on the Coral Coast. We attended a wedding there years ago (pre-refurb) which was really nicely done. You do have a few kids around and it's more like hotel rooms than Fijian bures, but the beach is nice, there's a poolside bar, and a number of places you can eat. Reception is done at Flying Fish out on the pier.

From Warwick you can catch fairly nearby helicopter transfers using Island Hoppers for a speedy trip (15 minutes odd) back to Denarau/Nadi, with the added bonus of seeing Fiji from above.

Once in Denarau you could chose to stay a night there and depart the next day to any of the stunning islands in the Mamnuca or Yasawa Groups.

If you choose to stay at Coral Coast, it's not far to Pacific Harbour, which is where many resorts located on Beqa Lagoon depart from (Royal Davui, Beqa Island Resort, etc).

Denarau island hotels are very much western style resorts and the negatives you have received are probably for this reason though they do I believe do fantastic weddings but I would not think they would be the place for a honeymoon. Denarau island is a reclaimed mangrove swamp and only a channel a few meters wide separates it from the main island of Viti Levu in the Nadi area.Calling it an island is something of a misnomer. Not a place to snorkel. The larger Coral Coast resorts you have mentioned are family orientated so you would have to expect lots of kids around. My picks would be Castaway Island, Musket Cove or Tokoriki and possibly Viwa Island Resort ;though it is small and may not accommodate enough guests the location is amazing, picture postcard perfect with talcum powder soft white sand and aqua lagoon. The advantage of Tokoriki is that guests could stay at Amanuka resort next door allowing the actual wedding party privacy on Tokoriki. Good luck with your plans, very exciting time.

Neither Tokoriki or Viwa allow children and Amanuca Resort is currently closed until September but due to new management and other issues - opening date is not guaranteed. Just something to consider as you wouldn't want wedding plans to go haywire if the resort doesn't open in time. What month is your wedding?

Malolo Lailai Island is where Plantation Island Resort (extremely family orientated), Musket Cove Resort (family friendly but also has some accommodation that is adults only) and Lomani Resort ((adults only). There is also some timeshare accommodation (bures - small huts) and various private rentals available on the island. These are all able to be reached by walking or there are golf carts for some transfers. Choosing to stay on Malolo Lailai would offer your guests a large range of accommodation types and prices as well as different restaurants/bars and cafe style places to eat. There is a nine hole golf course (could be a bit of fun for the guys) and spa treatments available for the ladies at both Musket Cove and Lomani (I presume they have these at Plantation as well but have never looked into it). When we stayed there was a large wedding with the bride arriving by helicopter so obviously they can deal with all sorts of arrangements. There is a chapel up on the hilltop (just google 'malolo lailai chapel' to see pictures) or you could have a beach wedding (be aware the island is very tidal so not such a pretty back-drop at low tide). You can even get married out on the sandbar if that's your thing. The other advantage is accessibility, there are four ferry trips to and from the island each day which are an hour long each way. These leave from Port Denarau which is approx. half an hour from the airport. That makes it logistically easier for your guests to travel to than many of the other islands. There is no reason that your special day should be overrun by children, just put yourself in the hands of a good wedding coordinator and all should be fine. Gloria from Musket Cove gets a lot of praise, perhaps try contacting her with a few questions initially.

Thank you all so much! The advice is great and gave me lots of new info and options! I think telling guests where we want to get married and suggesting where they could stay is a great idea. I think in the end, we will all stay together since we are not a very large group, about 20. I will opt for Malolo Lailai Island because of all the options I can give the guests. THANK YOU ALL SOOO MUCH!!!
