If you are going this July, you haven't left yourself much time to book a resort. July is high season in Fiji. Many popular resorts are booked months or a year in advance.

July is outside the rainy/cyclone season. Weather should be good. However, it can't be predicted or guaranteed wherever you go. Would expect tropical downpours, usually in the afternoon. It is possible to get a day or two of rain which ever resort you decide on.

Resorts in the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands, get less rain than those in the northern region. It all comes down to budget and what you want in a resort. They have soft, white sand beaches and are less tidal than resorts in the Northern region.

Have a look at the websites for the following resorts. All are high end adults only resorts.

LikuLiku, the only resort in Fiji with over the water bures. It is tidal. Depending on the tides, there maybe no water under the over the water bures. Yasawa Island Resort, Namale, and Turtle Island Resorts, both all inclusive, Tokoriki, Royal Davui, Qamea, and Matangi, our favorite resort in Fiji.

If money is no object Laucala, and Wadigi Resorts.

Taveuni Palms and Taveuni Island Resorts are popular with couples/honeymooners. Children are allowed. Being small resorts you wouldn't be overrun with them, if there are any.

The 14 bures at Matangi offer a choice of treehouse, with separate bedroom, jacuzzi tub, beachfront literally steps to the beach, and ocean view a little farther back. All have outdoor lava rock showers, which is an amazing experience. From the moment you wade ashore, greeted with singing you will be called by name. As strange as it sounds you will arrive as guests and depart as part of the Matangi family.

What we enjoyed most about Matangi, is we could do as much or as little as we like. Lay by the pool with a good book and drink. Hike around the island, and overlook Horseshoe Bay, or take one of the daily complimentary snorkeling tours to the outer reefs. Tours to a school/village, as well tours to the Bouma Water Falls, Peckham Pearl Farm, and Lavena Coastal walk are also available.

The private luncheon at Horseshoe Bay is a must. Nothing like having a private beach all to yourselves with a delicious meal and drinks. Wonderful snorkeling and kayos to use.

The snorkeling was the best we have have experienced in Fiji because of diversity. Lots of fish, blue starfish, giant clams, and soft, hard and plate coral. The beach is tidal. Meaning you may not be able to walk, swim 24/7. We always check the tide charts wherever we go in Fiji to insure we can snorkel off the beach mid morning to early afternoon.

The following link has pictures of our last vacation to Matangi. Will give you an idea of the bures, resort

grounds, beach, pool, snorkeling, etc.

Deciding on a resort comes down to budget and what you want in a resort. All the resorts mentioned are very popular, different, and get glowing reviews. Suggest you look at the reviews for resorts you are interested in and private message posters with specific questions. Has been our experience posters were willing to reply to our questions. Once you narrow down your choice of resorts, ask on the forum for information you are interested in.

Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention Lomani and Matamanoa. Lower end price adults only resorts. Viwa may also suit. Small resort, children over 12 allowed. Again doubt you would be overrun with them. There were none during our stay. We arrived the day after Christmas several years ago and stayed to bring in the New Year. It was without a doubt our best New Year's ever.

Also check that in July higher end resorts don't have "Family Weeks".
