Location and resort suggestions please

A friend and I (both 30-ish, female) are looking to holiday in Fiji in July - without our husbands and kiddies! Looking for some suggestions on where we could go/stay - the choices are overwhelming!

Budget: max $150 per person, per night; 5 night stay

Interested in seeing/doing the following: lazing by the beach/pool; village visit/tour (maybe to a local school?); walks/hiking to check out waterfalls etc; massages/facials etc; watersports.

Thanks in advance!

You can do all that at one of the resorts on the Coral Coast, however the beaches aren't that flash and the snorkeling (if that is your thing) isn't great either.

I think the pick of the spots to stay are the islands. They generally don't have waterfalls and hiking is fairly limited but the beaches are to die for.

My wife and I go to Navini and the reason why I mention it is because of the transfers. You get picked up at Nadi Airport by Henri, any time - day or night. He then drives you to Vuda Point near First Landing and your on the resort boat and 30min's later you are at the resort. No hassles. It is pricey but having said that all the prices are in Fiji Dollars!

Ok, in this situation I would actually recommend Musket Cove Resort on Malolo Lai Lai. Whilst I have never stayed there I have been there a number of times and I think it is a lovely spot. The Bar/Restaurant is called Dicks Place after the owner and it has a real ambience to it. The beach is not great but you can walk around to plantation for that if you like. The pool is very good. You can also sit at Dicks Place and take in the view over the lagoon watching the International yachts as they come and go.

You could also look at the Dot Points at the right side of the page - Which Island.

Once you have narrowed down your choice, check out the reviews on Trip advisor and say for argument sake you decided to go to Mana Island resort then you could private message someone like Manaregular who would be able to give you a lot of helpful tips on where you were staying.

Hope this helps but doesn't bore you

All the best

There is a beautiful waterfall worth visiting near Warwick Resort/Hideaway at Biausevu Village. Trips can be organised from most resort hotels. I don't recommend during rainy season, due to flash flooding, but May should be okay. My review is up in the Sigatoka forum, Adventures in Paradise. Budget wise may be difficult to organise holiday out on the Mamanuca Islands. Having been to Mana 27 times and about to revisit, can recommend but will be just out of your budget. 3 beautiful beaches, excellent snorkeling, diving, 2 pools, 2 restaurants and being a large island plenty of room for walking, hiking etc. I can give you lots of information/pics/mreus re Mana, but as Basil_Mo recommends PM Manaregular only for more information.

Bula LE (and SA)

i have a couple of suggestions for you on the Coral coast http://www.myfiji.com/ has a great deal for the Hideaway Resort and Spa $1490. 7 nights accommodation, return air, resort transfers ,all meals and drinks including local spirits house wine 10am to 10pm plus a massage and $500 spending money http://hideawayfiji.com/

The next two are past just Sigatoka at Korotoga http://www.bedarrafiji.com/ and http://www.crowsnestresortfiji.com/ the Bedarra is quiet small so not a lot of kids. The Crow's Nest is an older resort with views out over the sea from every room we really enjoyed our stay there, they are on a road called the sunset strip that runs along the beach from the village to the Outrigger Resort and has several restaurants and bars (Kokos) giving you choices of where to eat and drink helping to keep the price within budget
