closest nice hotel, beach, relaxing, no kids, 4 days, Januar

hello, couple traveling to Fiji in Jan 2015. what is a nice hotel/island we can go to w/o many more hours of flying/driving/boating for a quickie 4 nights in Fiji? Budget is approx $300+- USD per night. Would like to do a few dives, beach, hikes, etc. Thanks!

Lomani would be among the easier to reach adults only resorts...

25 minute taxi ride from the airport to the marina followed by a ferry trip of slightly less than an hour or, even better, fly there in around 10 minutes by simply clearing customs and then heading to the domestic carrier located inside Nadi airport...

Alternatively take a look at Navini which will have you planted on a small tropical island in the South Pacific before you even realise that you're out the airport door their transfers are so straight forward...

Tropica Island resort is a well priced adults only resort in a gorgeous setting and has recently been refurbished in contemporary style. They currently have some specials advertised on Trip Advisor.

Depending what time your flight arrives, you could look at Octopus Resort in The Yasawas. The speedboat runs out there twice a day & takes under 2 hours (it's fast & a great way to see from a distance some other islands) the shuttle bus will collect you from the airport & take you over to Raffles where you can enjoy a coffee or cold drink & then take you to the marina to catch the boat. For us who landed at 5.40am it was a really quick process & were out on the island by 11.15am - perfect!

There is a mountain hike you can do with amazing views (my partner did this) as well as opportunity to visit dive sites, great snorkelling off the beach, meals package which we loved - the food was amazing. The beauty of this resort is the friendliest Fijians I have ever met as it is staffed mainly by the nearby village.

January will be hot & humid though. We have stayed at Octopus twice a,ready this year and planning our 3rd trip next year. It's not flashy, it really gives you the true Fijian feel. Have a look at the reviews on here.

Cheers

thanks for the suggestions!!

forgot to mention that I'd like to do Beqa Adventure Divers shark dive (http://fijisharkdive.com/) or something like it. This company appears to be on the other side of the main island that Nadi is in. Would this mean it would not be possible/practical to stay at a small island and also do this dive? Is Fiji like the maldives, where you generally are restricted to the island/hotel you are staying on?

Can anyone recommend another dive shop that offers a similar shark dive?

You could stay on Beqa. There are a couple of resorts and all will offer access to the Shark dive. It would be difficult to do from a western side island resort. Beqa Island would meet all your criteria except that it is a couple of hours drive before a half hour boat transfer to the island.

Given the short amount of time that you're looking at staying logistically it's probably not practical to try to fit both an island stay and this particular dive in. If the dive is a priority then you could consider staying at either The Pearl...

or The Uprising...

http://uprisingbeachresort.com/

These are both resorts situated on the main island of Viti Levu and are close to where the shark dive takes place.

Alternatively you could try contacting Subsurface Fiji to see what they could offer by way of comparison...

They offer free pick up from many resorts located in the Mamanuca Islands, see the list on their site for more info.

Hi jjcookie.I can't add to what others have posted re a place to stay. I am however an avid scuba diver.

i dive with subsurface Fiji which services Lomani island resort,Liku LIku.Musket cove resort and Mololo island resort.

If you base yourself in one of these resorts then you will not have the very specific shark encounter that Bega provides.

You will though have some fantastic diving and I'd be very VERY suprised if you diddn't encounter a shark or two. This year I did 10 dives with subsurface. saw 4 sharks, a couple of manta rays,a few turtles.Stunning soft corals, viz generally 25yards but closer to mololo island its down to 10 yards clear vis.

Incidently-they do a night dive which is just amazing.Micro rather than macro stuff.
