Fiji Family Getaway..

We are looking at going to Fiji with kids but do not want to have a "hotel/resort" holiday. we would like to stay on an island and live quite simple for 2 weeks, idealy a beachfront bure so we can crawl out swim/fish and play, I do not know if such a place will exist but if antbody has any ideas they would be appriciated.

If you don't want a large hotel, or a resort then renting a private house could be a good option.

You could have the best of both worlds on Malolo Lai Lai island. You could rent a private house on the island, like the Reef House or others depending on your budget, and be with 10-15 minutes walk of all the the 3 resorts on the island.

Perfect way to spend a family holiday. There so many beaches to explore well away from the resorts, but you could also do some of the trips available from Musket Cove Resort like island hopping, fishing, snorkelling etc. And there's the Trader store to buy food and other supplies

If you look at their website it has all the private houses listed and prices, but think The Reef House has it's own website too, as told by another forum poster on here that they got a great price for a 2 week stay from the owner of the house.

Have a great holiday. Much better than the beaches and large hotel chains at Denarau.

I have to agree with lifetravellerbrissy. I havent stayed at Reef House but definitely aim to one day! But we have stayed on the same island and its big enough to find plenty to do, it has ample eateries to choose from as well as shops, pools and bars. Plus you are on an Island!! BIG bonus.

Here is the website for Reef House: http://www.afijiholiday.com/

Have fun!

Hi Hardysontour

Have a look at Castaway Resort or Malolo Island. Castaway Resort has 66 individual bures and not some highrise building. The food was fantastic - have a look at the pictures on facebook.

Malolo Island Resort has recently refurbished the accomodation and the rooms look nice for a family of 4. This resort has 47 bures, therefore not a large resort like Outrigger, Shangrila or Plantation. Good luck finding your holiday destination. Jacqui

hardysontour,

We wanted the exact same thing you have mentioned so we have booked the reef house for 2 weeks in October, (10 weeks to go but who's counting) I will be sure to post a review on our return. There are quite a few private residences around that you can book, but this one took our eye, as we had already been to plantation before and we really enjoyed the island. The reef house can fit the 5 of us in comfortably, we can self cater when we want to, buy supplies from the shop and there are a selection of restaurants to eat at and a deciding factor was we got a good deal for going out of holiday season, (the kids are pretty happy they get an extra 2 weeks off school).

For an extra F$ 35 per adult per week you can use all the Musket cove facilities, grab a kayak and go for a paddle and go on the boat trips to to sand bar to snorkell and also to the shell village.

Enjoy your planning.

Hello everyone,

Not long and we will be over on Malolo Lai Lai again for much longer this time, and will be having a better "look" at the Private Villas (houses) as Steely had mentioned the family have booked the Reef House. It's in a great position and is better priced than some of the "mansions" whoops, villas on the islands.

But really depends on your budget , Hardysontour, as some of the villas/houses are just fantastic, all with your very own housekeeper to clean and assist.

Will let you know if we get the opportunity to check and let you know Steely.

all the best with your planning Hardy family.
