5 Year Anniversary: Need Advice on South Pacific Trip

My husband and I are celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary in August. While I would love to visit Tahiti, I am concerned with the cost being far too high with the way the US economy is. I am extremely interested in Fiji, Bali, Phuket, or Hamilton Island. Any advice on which place to visit? We have been spoiled by the beaches and water in the Caribbean, and we would prefer to visit a place with gorgeous scenery. Please let me know what your thoughts are!

Depending on your budget, check out the website for Matangi Private Island Resort in Fiji. We have been there twice and are returning this April. We celebrated out 25th wedding anniversay there last year.

Hi YogaTravel,

I would not recommend Bali or Hamilton Island, however Phuket and Fiji are both lovely however Fiji is my winner every time. It is the special genuine nature of the Fijians that make it so special. they welcome everyone with open arms and want to much to share their lives and culture with you.

There are so many resorts for you to choose from in Fiji catering to all budgets. I would recommend contacting Tourism Fiji and getting the name of a Fiji Specialist in your area. That way you will have someone to help you all the way and take the hard work out of the researching.

Hi There from Arkansas

Bali, Phuket all sounds lovely but you can never go wrong with Fiji as i keep returning with my family and grand children for a holiday

Some places i would suggest are Namale Resort, Likuliku Lagoon Resort,Maravu Beach Resort,as they have gorgeous beaches plus Navutu Stars Resort as they have been making waves in the romance market plus the island is set in a lush environment where one calls it am untouched paradise!!! They also organize Yoga sessions the scenery and views are just breathtaking

Hope that helps, Happy Planning!!!

I live in Australia and believe we have the best beaches in the world and the Great Barrier Reef is just that, the best coral reef on the planet. But the resorts are just like any other resort in the world over priced and mediocre service if you want something a little different have a look at Samoa before the tourist industry discovers it and takes over, unspoiled beaches friendly people and not over priced

We too are travelling in August to celebrate a wedding anniversary, 25y for us. We decided on Fiji because the Yasawas have an unrivalled reputation, walk out the front door onto beaches that you can snorkel over coral. As an Australian I wouldn't recommend Hamilton Island unless you just want to swim in a pool. However there are other parts of Australia certainly worth the trip. My son has just returned from an around the world trip, and stayed in both the Caribean and Phuket. He loved the Caribean and hated Phuket, thought it was very dirty. (Although it certainly would be a cheaper option for us). Good luck, have a look at the smaller resorts in the Yasawas or Mananucas(?spelling). Also the Cook Islands are wonderful as well.

Hello YT,

Hope you dont mind we lurking - sometimes its interesting to find out how things are going in the Sth Pacific in general. Since you are deliberating between several Pacific destinations, with the Cook Islands being mentioned, I welcome you to consider out little place in the Sth Pacific too.

We have our own Cook Islands forum - and our tourism industry sits between Fiji being more developed, and Samoa under-developed. Our scenery is gorgeous - white sand swimming beaches, clear lagoon waters, friendly welcoming people, wide range of accommodation to suit all pockets. Air New Zealand, Air Tahiti Nui, and Pacific Blue international carriers. We use NZ dollars to our advantage.

Happy planning.
