10 Day Trip in Early October, Must Sees? Feedback Please

We are young 30 something, adventurous couple planning a 10 day trip in early October from LAX to Venice and then heading down the coast, flying out of Dubrovnik.

1. Wondering the best stops? Planning on nights in Venice, Lovran, Split, Korcula, Hvar, and Dubrovnik. Which one of these can we "miss?" Also, are there places that we may be overlooking that we should add? We enjoy good food and wine.

2. Travel in between locations? We were planning on renting a car and making the 3-4 hour drive each time. Is this realistic? How are the roads?

3. Slow season/weather in October? 50s-60s? Are there a lot of closures during this time?

Thanks so much for any feedback. It is all appreciated!

You can miss Lovran...make one stop in Zadar instead. Renting the car is the best way to go around in Croatia.

1. I would also skip Lovran. Plenty of good food & wine. I would recommend taking the ferry from Korcula to Orebic (just 15 mins) and then driving down the Peljesac Peninsula stopping at a vineyard along your route, also stopping in Ston to see the walls and Mali Ston for some fabulous seafood.

2. Korcula and Hvar are islands and therefore you should check the car ferry schedule for these routes and their timings. You can check them on www.jadrolinija.hr and there is an English language button there. You then choose the sailing schedule on the left hand side. On Hvar you will need to take the car ferry to Stari Grad as there is only a passenger ferry to Hvar town.

3. Early October is definitely the slow season however the weather is normally lovely then, last year we were swimming til the end of October and certainly sunbathing in early October. There will be some closures (generally end of Sept) but there will also be plenty of places open. Split & Dubrovnik will be much busier than the islands as their season is a bit longer.

How about a night in Rovinj instead of Lovran?

Thanks everyone! We really appreciate it. We'll take a look at Istria!
