Travelling to Krk across Europe

Hi there

Any advice would be welcome. My husband and I would like to drive from Scotland to Krk at the beginning of July. We are not sure about whether to get the ferry to the Netherlands from Newcastle or Dover - Calais. Thought we might go via Bavaria on the outward journey and back through Italy, France on return trip but open to any suggestions.

We will be taking a 2 man tent with us in case we want to camp along the way or budget hotel. What are our best accommodation options when we get there?

Many thanks

You can go across Bavaria, yes, Slovenia and Istria. In July everthing is crowded so it's not easy to give you any specific suggestion. If you want to sleep in a hotel, book in advance. Otherwise, you should sleep in a tent or find the place to sleep along the trip.

Once you get at Khrcq best value is B&B ,booking ahead via agency http://www.tz-krk.hr/en/where-to-stay.html In Croatia, the camp/B&B rates are similar.

Tent is great.Make sure you run a pitch & tempest-test at home.

Can't say much about rest of the trip except...motorway toll traps.Germany/ Austria border is invisible sou you may be easily slapped not having Austria toll sticker.Same for entering Slovenia.

You can save few pennies by filling up before/after the border of the countries you go through theaa.com/onlinenews/…december2010.pdf
