Best family resort in Croatia

Dont know anything about Croatia and would like to know what is the best resort to have a family holiday. We usually go to OLu Deniz in Turkey and are thinking of a holiday in Croatia next year.

Would like somewhere near to the beach with things to do through the day ie: Boat trips etc and a lively night time but not to lively.

Is it cheap and what is the local currency.

when surfing the net, go for hotel resorts, since they usually have a hotel pool, some even a playground for kids, and beaches are near. there are excursions organised from all hotels too, and wherever you stay, there will be a plenty.

since you're a newcomer, the coast is divided in four main areas, from the North: Istrian peninsula (city of Pula), Primorje (Rijeka), Northern Dalmatia (Zadar, Šibenik), Southern Dalmatia (Split, Dubrovnik).

As for excursions, the best advice might be Istria (try to find my post on it), and Northern Dalmatia, which offers both excursions by boat to Kornati islands, and inlands to the Plitvice lakes and waterfalls, Krka waterfalls. Cities of Pula, Zadar and Split still have excellent ancient Roman architecture - Pula with its well preserved amphitheatre, temple and forum, Zadar with forum and lovely architecture, Split with its Diocletian palace, actually the city core. All have great museums.

Where will you fly into - that makes a big difference as the coast is very long. I hear that there are to be Newcastle-Split flights in summer 2012 so that part of the central Adriatic may be where you need to look.

How about flying into Zadar and going to Nin? Or fly into Split and look at something like Trogir, or going out to an island such as Brac?
