Can everyone please tell me their favourite places to visit in Croatia, I really want a must see list! Going there in July
I am glad to recommend you some of my of favorite places in Croatia, but how many days you would like to stay?
If not asking about coast only i can kindly recommend to visit inland Croatia and Danube area. Lots of nice place to see and to do: Wine tourism, cyclo routes, castles and historic places and great food!! Check destinations Ilok&Osijek.
My favorite place is Dubrovnik and I think it should be on your list. There are so many other places worth a mention though and I don't think you can go wrong in picking just about anywhere. But other places that I have really enjoyed are Korcula, Vis, Brac, Split and Makarska.
It would be nice to know how long you will have though!
The word “best” means different things to different people. Really depends on your interests.
There are five main regions in Croatia - Istria, Kvaner, Inland Croatia (Zagreb), Dalmatia & Dubrovnik region.
In the Istia region the main airport is Pula which is Istria’s biggest city known for its Roman monuments and amphitheatre. Rovinj is one of the main resorts and has some beautiful scenery with red-roofed houses surrounded by sea on three sides. Porec is a lovely Roman town as well. Both Rovinj and Porec can be busy in the summer months. Inland Istria is much quieter with oak woods, vineyards and hilltop towns.
Rabac is one of the best resorts for families with a nice beach.
Also recommend a visit to the Brijuni islands by boat. Stunning scenery :-
There are plenty of day trips available from Istria. Have a look at the following link which will give you a example of the types of day trips available :-
Moving towards the Kvarner region, the main airport is Rijeka.
I visited the resort of Opatija during one of my visits to Croatia. If your looking for a excellent hotel, have a look at the Hotel Miramar. Have a look at my trip report for further information:-
My photographs :-
In the Kvarner region also consider the beautiful islands of Cres & Krk :-
Inland Croatia is often overlooked at the majority of travellers head to the coast. Consider Osijek and Varazdin :-
For stunning scenery & beautiful waterfalls visit Plitvice Lakes close by. Have a look at my photographs :-
Zagreb is also close by if you want to visit a city.
In Dalmatia the main airport is Split. Split has lots of history, recommend a visit to Diocletian's Palace :-
Visit to Trogir which is included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
Hvar, Brac or Korcula are beautiful islands or you could as an alternative stay in a costal resort such as Makarska. Also quieter resorts such as Tucepi close by May be interested in reading my trip report with more photographs :-
Last but not least - Dubrovnik also known at the ‘pearl of the Adriatic’. Have a look at my latest trip report, more photographs as well :-
Also consider Cavtat, Lokrum, Mijet to name a few. Also possible to visit Montenegro close by.
Hope this has given you some ideas Happy planning!
