If only one island--which would you pick and why?

As some of you know from my earlier post, my DH and I will be visiting late April and early May for right around 2 weeks. My first plan was to stay equal time in Dubrovnik, Split area, and Rovinj (with 1 night in Plitvice). Everyone suggested the Zadar area was worth a night or two and others suggested several islands.

We will have a car (will pick it up in Dubrovnik) so are only interested in an island that is easty to get to and worth the time and effort.

Would a day trip work? Or should we pick one and spend a night or two?

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions!

Glad to see your plans are progressing. Hard to pick just one island. How about two? That would be Mljet and Vis as they are both quiet and tranquil. Not only that but they are stunning. Plus they are less busy than many others, though as you are going in shoulder season the others (i.e. Korcula and Hvar) would also be good picks. Regardless, I still stand by Vis and Mljet. But then as you know, I am a small village/rural person who shuns commercialism, crowds, night life...

I would choose Korcula. It is easy to get to from Dubrovnik with only a short and inexpensive ferry journey from Orebic. You could also drive to the other end of the island and continue your journey by getting the car ferry from Vela Luka to Split. If staying a couple of nights on Korcula you could also do a day trip by catamaran to Hvar town.
