Mid September would be a good time to visit Criatia?

We are in our sixties and we prefer nice warm weather ( but not extreme).

We are also wondering how many days should be spend there and if it will be wise to combine it with Montenegro and/or...

This means we are quite lost and we need help with our itinerary. We are planning ro rent a car and we will have about 12 full days.

PLEASE, help us here.

September is very good to visit, as it's not overcrowded and not hot. the temperatures should be above 20C, unless some really bad weather occurance changes them. the sea is still usually appropriately warm to swimin it. using a car is a very good idea.

and your itinerary comes down to your interests - i.e. more culture and sightseeing, or more relaxing; and how much you'd like to travel. also, where are you flying into? Zagreb or the coast?

come back with more details to help you more...

Thanks, happybypleasure (???)

Well, we haven't yet decided from where will be starting. We know we will do quite a lot of driving, but I don't know if seeing 2 or 3 of the most beautiful places in Croatia, driving to Montenegro to do the same and, maybe something else, is too ambitious, considering the time we have. We would like to spend at least 2 nights in every place we visit.

Any help will be more than welcome, as we are just starting with this project and our itinerary is open.

By for now.

you can do a daytrip to Montenegro from Dubrovnik.

Dubrovnik itself is worth several if not more days, including all the local trips - the Elaphiti islands, Mljet island NP, Cavtat and nearby Konavle area. then you can drive to Korcula (a 10min ferry connecting it with Orebic on Peljesac peninsula), then up to Split and some of the islands - Hvar, Brac, Vis,..., up through Sibenik (and River Krka NP) to Zadar and Plitvice Lakes NP, to Zadar. Or the other way around... i.e. from Zagreb, down to Dubrovnik... some approximations for a better idea:

day 1-4 Dubrovnik

day 5-6 Korcula

day 6 to Split and an island

day 6-8 island

day 9-11 Trogir/Sibenik/Zadar, Plitvice

day 12 depart from Zagreb or Split

You are great. You are hired, no doubt about it.

Just one question. Or more. The day trip to Montenegro is not too much? Will we be able to see enough of it in only some hours?

And if we do it, then we will have one day less in Dubrovnik.,

The big question here is, what to skip. Shorten our stay in one of the islands? Or what?

Thanks so much for your time and interest.

For me I would not sacrifice a day in Dubrovnik to go to Kotor.

I am with Barry and would not trade a day in Dubrovnik for one in Kotor.

And yes, mid-September is just lovely.

Well, what would I do

without all of you?

Got it. So, skip Montenegro.

Now we are speaking.

And, if we would want to add Slovenia???

The thing is that, obviously, we will not go back to that particular part of the world. I mean, is not Paris, yes?

No offense here. So we would like to see the most beautiful and worthwhile places in this one trip.

Sorry, but, start working, friends.

Although Budva is overdeveloped and Podgorica is ugly, Montenegro does have some spectacular natural features - Bay of Kotor, Tara Gorge, Lake Skadar etc. The blue cave is also better than the one in Vis because you can swim in it. You also get to see different religious buildings in Montenegro.
