Advice on honeymoon in Croatia - hotel with a difference

Hi

Following our wedding in April 2014, my Fiance and are trying to decide where to go on our mini moon directly after our wedding. We've been to Dubrovnik previously but are considering exploring one of the islands in Croatia but we don't know where to start and we are suffering from information overload. We are looking to avoid somewhere too touristy and, perhaps wrongly, are focussing slightly more on the accomodation at this point. Ideally we would like to treat ourselves to a little bit of luxury that we would not usually justify (e.g. jacuzzi, private pool or something similar to make it memorable) in a small hotel somewhere near a beach. We are looking at circa 8 nights and will be travelling from London. Any advice or ideas would be gratefully received!

That would be certainly Hvar town, on Hvar island, accessible by boat from Split (airport!), and for more info please check Hvar tourist board site at http://www.tzhvar.hr/en/

I was thinking Hvar too...but didn't know which hotel would fit with what they are looking for?

Tourists always want somewhere "not too touristy". How about Svetak? Looks like it's only accessible by swimming there.

If it is the accommodation you wish to focus on, then I would try internet searches related to that, some examples:

greatsmallhotels.com/croatia/boutique-hotels

luxurycroatia.com/pl/167/l/EN/Exclusive-and-…

Perhaps Monte Mulini or Hotel Lone in Istria?

If I am off-base with those suggestions, then give us some feedback. I have always found it the most pleasant to rent an apartment with a great view, so once you choose a location we can help with that.

By the way, it is extremely unlikely you will have beach weather in April. If you are still set on Croatia, let us know.

I would ask chefathome if she knows of a luxury place in Istria. Something like these:

If its April when the weather is really unpredictable then Hvar Town definitely, as it has a higher number of sunny days than anywhere else in Croatia.

In Istria - Monte Mulini in Rovinj (or Lone) would be ideal for luxury but Villa Meneghetti or San Rocco are great alternatives.

Also, yes, Hvar has a good number of sunny days but that is not a guarantee for April. Hvar will setill be quite dead in April and I would stick to the mainland.

This article from 2010 says Hvar is the romantic getaway destination in Croatia: huffingtonpost.com/samantha-daniels/romantic…

I thought Opatija would be the romantic getaway in Croatia, but that shows I know nothing about romance.
