Croatia Honeymoon Hotels/airbnb

We're having our honeymoon in Croatia aug 30-sept 7 2014. We're planning on going to Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Istria -

1)Can any one recommend how many days we should spend in each?

2)We'd also love to do wine tasting, any recommendations on where we can do that?

3) Also, I've been looking at hotels vs renting an aparment. Are there certain cities where one might be easier over the other?

4)We'd probably want to do a couple of days just of relaxation at a beach resort- is Hvar the best place to do that?

Anything else anyone think can be helpful would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I will just start by saying that it will be difficult to do Dubrovnik and Istria in such a short period of time as there is quite a distance between those two points. I say concentrate on Dubrovnik and Hvar and be done with it and save Istria for the next time!

Barry is right - Dubrovnik to Istria in 7 days is too far.

Do you have flights booked yet? Unless you can fly into Dubrovnik and out of Split or vice versa, I would not try to visit both Dubrovnik and Hvar. That is too much time to waste in transit.

If Dubrovnik, then consider visiting one of the Elafiti islands in addition to Dubrovnik.

The Peljesac peninsula, north of Dubrovnik, is a wine region.

Here are my go-to resources, in addition to a good guide book:

http://www.jadrolinija.hr/ (ferry schedules)

http://croatia.hr/en-GB/Homepage (comprehensive tourist board website, with links to local tourist boards--another good resource)

http://www.croatia-beaches.com/ (anything you could want to know about beaches)

http://islands.zesoi.fer.hr/ (a lovely description of the islands)

given all the previous posts, and definitely advising you to focus just on Dubrovnik and Hvar, with Split being your outbound airport, I'd say the following:

1) 3 days Dubrovnik, 4 days in Hvar town

2) wine tasting - since Hvar island is famous for its wines and wineries, then definitely on Hvar

3) if on a honeymoon, I'd go for hotels definitely. easy to get in both places, but book early, for that period is still high season

4) beach resort- Dubrovnik has beaches and can be called a beach resort itself, but Hvar has more of an intimate feel. However, if you'd like to travel a bit by boat around Dubrovnik, you should definitely reserve a day to hang out on sandy Šunj beach on Lopud island near Dubrovnik, accessible with regular local daily boat from Gruz port.
