Try the BRD bank office (open only on weekdays, 9AM to 5PM).

All the exchange offices in the airport give lower rates than what you'd get into the city. If you have to use them change just a small amount (about 10 lei) for the bus into town and then change the rest after you get into the city at any bank.

Most places don't charge any fee for the exchange; always ask before doing the exchange and if they do want a fee go someplace else.

Forgery isn't a problem.

If your bank doesn't charge very high fees for it, withdrawing money from ATMs is the best way to get lei.

There are 7-8 ATMs in the airport.
