One week in Romania

Hi,

I'm a scout leader of a group of 21 young who are 16 years. After one week volunteering, we are going one week to Romania this summer (July). I wanted to know which cities we have to visit. Is it better to travel from one city to another by bus or by train? We are with 27 of us, so that's quite a lot, but do we have to book our youth hostels now or do you think there will be room enough to welcome all of us? Thank you

Hi

first its depend at wich city you are landing , like that it will be more easy

to the people in the forum to give you an Idea where to visit without travel

long distance .

it is not easy to travel with grup of 27 people with public transport

even I am personaly like to travel only with public transport .

will be better to use a bus rent .

book youth hostels now because no garenty that you will found 27 free bed

at one hostel spontanic , also its summer time so better to be pripered .

mean time you can read about romania at the romania tourism office website :

hello marie,

In romania, you should not miss;

- Transylvania with fortified churches and old saxon villages (Viscri, Biertan, Malancrav)

- Medieval Towns - Brasov, Sibiu and Sighisoara

- Maramures with wooden churches (Budesti, Poienile Izei, Desesti), Merry Cemetery in Sapanta or Anti-communism Memorial in Sighetul Marmatiei

- Bucovina with painted monasteries (Voronet, Moldovita, Sucevita, Humor, Arbore, Putna)

- Danube Delta - amazing wild region of Romania - Unesco World Heritage

for that size of the group i think a bus will be the corect choice. may be you can rent one with a driver / guide

Unfortunately, with trains you can't visit small villages wich are away from the main roads.

If do you need help in designing your route in romania, i will gladly help you with an itinerary. Just give me some details about how many days you'll spent in romania and what you wanna visti.

Regards !

From the ones mentioned above you should look at a map and choose 3 of them, it is impossible to do them all in one week :) I will go with BRasov / Sibiu, Bucharest and maybe 2 days in Mamaia because you are young and the atmosphere is very nice there for youngsters. You can easily travel by train but it is recommended to book your rooms in advance.

Cheers !

I am strongly recommend you to book your accommodation in advance ! It is pretty hard to find 27 free accommodation beds in the same location, especially in July, considered being season time both to the seaside or mountains.

And because of the age of the group (16 yo or so), if you will choose to go to the Black Sea, I advice you to skip Mamaia and choose instead Costinesti, more suitable for young people and not so expensive as Mamaia.

Have a great time !

We have a hostel in Maramures and have catered for scout groups in the past from all over Europe. However dispite occasional efforts to squeeze groups it has never been 21. You will definitely need to book in the summer months. Most groups come up here to do orienteering or outward bound awards this is very rural and not a city in any way.

Can i just also agree with above stay clear of Mamaia its expensive and really not worth it costinesti would be a much better option and there is a very busy hostel there
