is it prohibited to take pictures in the metro?

some posts i found saying that it is not allowed to take pictures in the metro. someone from virtual tourist was fined RUB100 because of it.

is it true? how come i could find so many pictures taken in the metro by other tourists?

is it just for st p?

No, pictures in the metro are not banned, they are banned in the railway stations (not in the trains though!)

Using a tripod might be considered professional work and they might require an authorization for that.

In St.-Petersburg it is allowed to take pictures only without flash. About tripod - I don't know((

i checked the posts i read again and found they were in 2005. so i assume it was prohibited in 2005 but not now

Also, it depends on the city. In St.-Petersburg it was forbidden. But about 2 years ago we were allowed to take pictures without flash. In the rules nothing is sayed about tripod - so, I think, that it is nor forbidden!

9.17. It is forbidden to anyone in metro to take pictures or make video using flash without written permission.

As far as I know, St. Petersburg was the last stronghold of 'no-pictures-in-the-subway' policy. But recently it has fallen, now photo is allowed, the only limit is not using flashes. Tripods are not mentioned, so, I assume, they are OK.
