As far as I know the views out towards the sea were from Becici but the interior shots were taken elsewhere. Maybe someone has more details.

Hi There,

I just watched the movie and I couldnt wait to confirm that was definitely Montenegro. Im spanish but I lived more than a year in Montenegro and that did not match at all with what I saw.

the new finally accepted internationally montenegro's flag what added to the casino, and most of signs and banners were in Serbian (or as they now called: Montenegrian. Almost exactly the same )

When I watched the trailer I oveheard the words "casino royale in Montenegro", but no trace of the country did I see so I thought it could be Montreal instead...

My QUESTION IS: Why choose Montenegro's name and shoot the movie in the Czech Republic (actually where the casino's area belongs to)?????? It is a suddendly a cool name why the got their independence? Or maybe it is closely related to corruption in many hollywood minds... ?? If someone finds out please let me now as Im so curious (alvaespa@hotmail.com).

Anyway, montenegro its a beutiful country I love it. its so worth seeing! hurry up and check it out before tourism invandes the area.... time is running up !

Regards,

Alvaro

Hi there,

Yes the film is actually set in Budva, Montenegro.

The hotel is Hotel Splendid which is a new hotel in Becici, about 5 - 10 minutes drive from Old Town Budva. We are getting married in Budva next year so my fiance just returned from a trip there. He stayed at Hotel Splendid and said it is amazing. We are having our wedding reception there next July.

They are still finishing construction on the hotel so some parts of it are not complete. It is right on the beach though and is a 5 star resort.

So yep, it would seem the movie is accurate, although I don't know where the Casino is or whether in fact it exists, but certainly Bond stays at Hotel Splendid and this does exist.

I have photos of the area and the hotel if anyone wants them. Email me at emr39@hotmail.com

Hi again

I have been hundred of times to Budva. Believe, that is not what we all saw in the movie... Hotel Becici its in Budva county, but Hollywood didn't go there.....

I just double checked and there are many webs making reference to the casino royale locations and they all say the same thing:

Casino Royale - Czech republic (for Montenegro)

Check this one for example: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381061/locations

It is not Montenegro, believe me : )

but the most people will be thinking by now thats montenego .... confusing hollywood... :)

Regards,

The Czech Republic has a large movie-making industry in place based around the Barrandov Studios.

There are all of the facilities that Hollywood producers need - all of the equipment and trained technicians.

I think that the Czech government also gives good tax breaks for foreigners filming in the country.

I am sure that Montenegro can't offer the same level of infrastructure at the moment, so they would not be able to offer the same deal as the Czech Republic.

It's all a matter of economics.

The only shots of Montenegro were when Bond is recuperating after his somewhat painful torture experience. The background shots were of the bay of Kotor, although the building is further down the coast near Sveti Stefan - they obviously played around with the photography. The hotel and town shots are definitely not Montenegro, but the Czech republic. The style of buildings do not match Montenegro, which is old stone buildings morre to the old Italianate style, whereas the town shots are very much more central.eastern European.

Great film

I have now done some more research. Although the movie is meant to be based in Montenegro it was actually filmed in the Czech Republic. Typical Hollywood....

That said, Hotel Splendid does exist and is very nice!!

This seems like a very comprehensive list of shooting locations and does not include Montenegro. Too bad, but I guess they would have had to import everything they needed as Montenegro doesnt have an established film industry.
